We keep hearing about how busy everyone's life is and how they are all working and shopping from home because it is so busy.

Can somebody please explain to me what we are all doing? It is now the second day of the year and my wife has seen her friend twice, they went out for a walk yesterday and have just popped out again.

Me? I haven't spoken to a soul apart from my wife.

I have got two friends, but there is little to no point in asking to do anything because they will be 'busy'.

I've haddock it up to here with all the fish puns, at this point you're all just doing it for the halibut.

I always say I’m busy. But it’s really a socially polite way of saying that I’d rather be on my own.
Interesting. Have you ever considered how that makes other people feel who want to see you?

Bugger. Thought I’d landed it quite well.

I'm not really sure what you're asking tbh.

Some people are more sociable than others.
Work always exapnds to fill the time available
It's the 1st day back for some people so emails are quite
People are busy because they procrastinate

Just 2 friends?! There are plenty more fish in the sea, cast your net wide and hookup with some new friends.

And a little bit of our day to day lives becoming so easy now, that we can easily get distracted by other things. You really have to make an effort to get out, otherwise it's very easy to just sit and Doomscroll or watch Netflix/YouTube all day long...which plenty of people do actually do!

Whether or not you would like more friends is a choice only you can make.

What I can say however is that making (and keeping) friends does take a bit of work. We are lucky in that we have a really good local bar which has a long shared table. There is an unwritten rule that if you sit at that table you are open to chatting with anyone, whereas sitting at one of the smaller, individual tables usually means you just want a quiet drink on your own. When we moved here (having moved from 200+ miles away) we wanted to develop a local friend network. We made an effort to talk with people we didn’t know (not all of whom we liked) but gradually you get to know who you like and become part of the scene. I volunteered to help with various community things (charity calendar etc) which helped extend the group further. Now we are able to call on any number of local folk either for a drink, a chat, or perhaps to go around to each other’s houses for a meal etc. We’ve even been on holiday with some of them!

Whilst we did put some time in to this I can be certain that if we’d stayed at home waiting from someone to knock on the door that certainly wouldn’t have happened!

I haven't gone outside further than my wheelie bin for 3 days now and don't plan on that changing before the weekend.

It's a difficult period for those of us who don't enjoy social situations. Having to spend time with family, kids being off school and keeping them entertained, visits to Santa, pantos, Christmas shopping etc.

I'm at a point where I just want to spend a few days in the house not talking to anyone besides the wife and kids

Make new friends. I joined Meetup a while back https://www.meetup.com
I like walking and nine of us walked Section 5 of the London Loop on Monday, about 7.5 miles in total. Through different groups I have done Horizon 22, theatre twice , pub meets, Illuminated River Walk & Pub etc.

Technically a normal working day for me. Some others are in as well as me.

People are just lazy and can’t manage their time - men and women. Or, admittedly, they have a minor essential job to do, like taking children to swimming, and it breaks up their time into unusable chunks so they end up with six hours wasted because the middle two hours was tied up.

I’m in India with work at the moment and had to explain over FaceTime to my nine year old son how to use the air fryer to cook frozen pastries for his breakfast this morning. My wife has been using the Christmas holiday as an excuse to stay in bed ‘til 11am but she “doesn’t have time to do anything”! He also managed to grind 18g of beans to make 36g of espresso in 28 seconds, so I feel like it was a good investment of my time for when I fancy a lie in and espresso and croissant in bed!

Mind you, she has just been made redundant so I’m going to cut her a lot of slack on this one. I hope she appreciated the breakfast in bed. frown

So much slack you slate her on a public forum.
