I’m looking to purchase some new brogues and obviously keen to take advantage of any new year discounts that might be available.
Probably tan or brown leather, for wearing with Chinos or to ‘dress-up’ some jeans.
Happy to pay £200+ for the right shoes, but don’t feel the need to pay for a bespoke ‘brand’ - I do need to learn to look after shoes better, as I tend to get rid of them once the exterior starts to look shabby, rather than wear out the soles and need them re-soled!
Something like this looks to be exactly what I’m looking for:
https://trickers.com/products/kensington-toecap-ox...
I’ve had problems in the past with bad blisters etc, so probably would visit the London store to try them on in person.
Any other brands / shops you’d recommend?

Show us your new shoes <- clicky and drop back a page (or two)Edited by Goaty Bill 2 on Friday 10th January 13:38
Oxford brogues are a bit dainty
They're more of a nod to the brogue pattern in an oxford shape city shoe than a true brogue IMO
Proper brogues are more full on Mr Men look like these
ETA with this style of shoe there will be some breaking in. Best way of avoiding blisters would be to choose a style that can stand some walking, accommodate slightly thicker socks, keep them supple and waterproof and get some miles in.

I don't agree at all. They're more of a nod to the brogue pattern in an oxford shape city shoe than a true brogue IMO

The ones you've linked to (which I used to own) are what I would call a country brogue and suitable for all the most arduous of trench warfare situations.

I think we may have crossed paths today. I started in Munich, changed train in Innsbruck and am now near Val Gardena. Wearing hiking boots, but have brogues in bag. Your train rather smarter than ours!
We have been tremendously lucky to have been upgraded from a standard historic cabin to a Suite.

Sounds like a plan.
Which route are you taking? How is the experience so far, as expected?
We are travelling from Venice to Brussels, having been in Verona and Venice for our wedding anniversary. We will get the Eurostar back from Brussels later tomorrow evening. Interestingly it was the same price to get off the train at Paris in the morning, so I decided it would be better to have a longer time on the train, including a more relaxed breakfast and a lunch, even if it left a longer trip home.Which route are you taking? Due to engineering works, I think we are following a slightly different route than normal, but it will be something like Venice -> Verona -> Milan -> Paris -> Brussels.
So far everything has been sensational - obviously you d expect it for the price, but it is a very special experience. Plus we have been lucky enough to have been upgraded to a suite, which if you look online (and I ve just done so) is an epic upgrade!

Sounds great, I'm not a train person but it has always appealed, an anachronism in the same way the QE2 (or even Concord oddly) was. Now put down the phone and go get a pre-dinner martini.Due to engineering works, I think we are following a slightly different route than normal, but it will be something like Venice -> Verona -> Milan -> Paris -> Brussels.
