Any bets on first shop to fail after xmas/new year?
Discussion
I thought there would be more traction on this one,
Curious what businesses the PH massive recon are on a shaky nail.
With the increase in costs, last year’s utilities and this year’s wages, and the drop in demand with everyone tightening their belts, you would have to think there could be a fair few failures in the offing.

WHSmiths.
Surely they can't keep going, at least on the high street?
I often go into the one in Chester, just to be amazed at how it keeps going; it's a total dump.
I worked in one 30 odd years ago and can’t believe they lasted as they have.Surely they can't keep going, at least on the high street?

They had a decent book ordering system that they completely failed to advertise. The management were atrocious and it was massively overstaffed back then.

Joules, didnt they close a few earlier in the year?
No idea, but I did get a nice Joules jumper for Christmas (apparently it was a 2-for-1 deal so mine was a free gift
Homebase is running the closing down sales now - we went last week, not a massive amount left in their Leicester store.
Halfords always feels like it is hanging on. Like WHSmiths.
Joules are now part of Next so will surely survive in some form.
Hope Crew don’t go or I’ll need a new supplier for polo shirts and quarter zip tops.
WH Smith’s seems to have been in decline for years but somehow clings on. Maybe 2025 will be their year to fold though.
I always wonder how Ryman survive. Sell some good stuff but never anyone in our local branch.
Mountain Warehouse is a strange place as well. Perpetual sales and almost entirely own brand tat now.

We got given several hundred £s of John Lewis vouchers a few months ago - we do think we should use them fairly quickly
I always suggest buying stamps, we did that about 7 years ago when we won £200 worth of co op vouchersI wasn’t willing to spend them on co op items as that’s about £50 value in real life as you are paying for convenience
We still have a decent amount left (we even had to exchange them last year for the news ones)
Would I do it again, probably not as we send so few items now there is a danger they will get lost before we use them
I’d consider an iPad
