I appreciate that Lewis and George were an incredibly strong team but has the 2025 team been strengthened by Bottas rejoining the team?
There were times when Lewis was at his peak but Bottas still pushing him or even overtaking him. He may not have been the constant winner like Lewis but he was pretty close.
His years at Sauber have probably hidden his talent but they probably haven’t diminished his ambition. Let’s see him in a Mercedes again?

The only chance Bottas has of racing in a Mercedes again is if Russel does a Perez, Antonelli comes up woefully sub-par of if either of them can't race for some reason.

I'm pleased he's been retained in F1 and demonstrates the benefit of never burning bridges. He could have got all sulky when he left the team but didn't and the result is he still has a job in F1 and with a former employer. But I don't see him brining much performance advantage to what they already have.

Valterri has a bigger following than George or Antonelli.
MB will use Bottas for all PR driving. I would expect him to be at Goodwood etc.

I just hope that Bottas does not have to go all "corporate" now that he is back in a Merc. His own personality has shone in the years after he left and has now given him a bigger fanbase.

Hope Merc realise that the "non corporate" Bottas will give them even more publicity as a reserve driver

I appreciate that he is a Reserve Driver but that’s ok probably for him. It’s not as if he’s had a season away and he’ll probably be in the various briefings etc. so if he’s called upon in the absence of the two regular guys he might score some points.

Will be doing a lot of their sim work too. I think it's good move from Merc. Will it solve all their woes? No.

Adding Bottas isn't going to make a discernible difference.

Biggest issue Merc have is developing their car with the GE.

Bottas is another (pre-2024) Perez. Can put in the odd quick lap but not really any great shakes over a season of race distances.

Not sure why a silly moustache and some carefully crafted social media posts would make that any different?

Pretty certain Wolf is/was his manager, so unlikely.

Do reserve drivers also do testing and sim work? I guess not race weekend sim as that's done at factory?

Yes Mick Schumacher was doing constant sim work, He was at the track Friday and then flying back to do sim work Friday night before being at the track again on Saturday. He did this for quite a few of the European races.

I guess Valtteri will have to stand next to Toto on race days and watch the monitor whilst acting like he gives a st what’s happening on track.

I suspect there's a fair element of a decent ish backup incase antonelli proves not the be the messiah and he completely flakes. If George proves the car is championship worthy and antonelli does a perez they have cover.
Also incase antonelli proves to be the next max or Lewis kn day one and is poached away early on then bottas is decent cover for that.

I think Antonelli would have to be worse than Sergeant level bad to lose his seat to Bottas. Toto's invested an awful lot in him so it would've mightily embarrassing for him to have to admit that the gamble didn't pay off
