I am seeking advice.

I am 57 now, accountant, have worked in a number of industries and latterly government - middle management.

Given my peculiar family arrangements, I find myself alone with no dependents (in a manner of speaking) so in theory I don't need to have a big house anymore or leave any legacy for anyone. So I can downsize, be mortgage free and

I was thinking of retiring and doing some sort of part-time consulting to have a car/bike fund. However, it feels like everyone out there is a consultant and I have no idea of how to market myself or even if there is a market for my services (which would be general management, finance orientated and personal coaching). How does one do it - previous clients (a bit tough for me as I work in government) or just advertise word of mouth, Linkedin etc?

cheers
I think you have to go to medical college or university.

My experience having just done it is that opportunities will come entirely from your network so it’s about letting all your connections know what you’re up to, what you’re looking for and what your specialty is.

This. You’ll need to market yourself.

It's all about contacts who know you so start cultivating every contact you can & build up as big a network as possible. Cold calling people is almost a dead loss.

Thanks all. I may consider trying to reduce the days I work in my current role. Maybe a lot easier

Merry Christmas and all that

I know you've deleted your initial post so not sure if you still want suggestions.

Definitely go 4 days or even 3 if you can.

It makes a huge difference but just make sure your workload reduces in line with reduced hours.

I have a few colleagues in senior positions who are 4 days and are still doing 5 days work.

You say you don't need a big house, option of downsizing?

Reduce the pressure to earn as much money.

Thanks, I think fewer days us easier, the only thing I don't know is whether I can take a few months off at a time.

Downsizing is on the cards once I can figure out where to move to
