..scumbags smashed the side window and stole the lights in London SW4. £9500 for a set, but I can't get any because so many have been stolen across Europe.. so no car now for 8 weeks.

I'm guessing this is a common problem, does anyone know of an aftermarket solution? Porsche don't have a fix and my neighbours have just had theirs stolen.. so I'm gonna have to sell the car unless I can solve it.

There are a couple of decent Porsche breakers around.
9apart are a good, I've dealt with Ben on a couple of occasions (ben.9apart@gmail.com) and they're often the cheapest on new parts too :-)
There's also Douglas Valley and a chap called Steve Strange on Ebay.
Good luck

Thanks - insurance will take care of it (eventually) but I'm looking for a security solution - eg a specialised alarm for the lights or for someone tampering with the wheel arch (which is where you undo the bolts to the lights)

Worrying isn't it. I know there are certain models of Mercedes that are having their front ends stolen (bumper, headlights etc). They simply yank the fronts off by hand, then sit on the ground and kick/stamp at the headlight to remove it. Must cost a fortune ££ to repair.

LED headlights are perfect for cannabis farms. It just happens that the Porsche ones are fairly easy to remove - at least in you Cayenne they appear to have left the car intact, in the Taycan, they peel the whole wings apart to get at them.

But it happens to Mercedes and BMW cars a lot as well - anything with powerful modern headlights.

Makes me very wary about where I park……

How can anyone justify nearly £10k for a pair of headlights?

No wonder Insurance is so expensive.

OK so, for anyone that's interested, I'm installing the CarLock GPS and vibration alert system that links to my phone. It's about £50 with a monthly subs for the SIM of about £6/month.

I can add two waterproof vibration sensors (Carlock accessory) that I'll place under the wheel arches - they're also designed to place near a catalytic converter, so I'm hoping it survives the weather.

I'm also considering an uprated alarm system with eardrum splitting levels placed near the wheel arch - a deaf thief is one less thief.. my wife suggested gluing razor blades to the T30 screws that release the headlights.. tempting.

I have seen photos of them cut out with a battery powered angle grinder - taking half the wing with them.

I think the cannabis thing is an urban myth. You can buy much better lights for growing weed for a couple of hundred quid. Porsche headlights worth far more than that on the black market.

You’ve just reminded me that I’ve got a CarLock on my current car that’s being sold tomorrow. Better go and remove it.

It’s a good system. Although the engage / disengage system for the app didn’t work flawlessly so often had to turn it off using the app.

I ended the subscription a while ago as I was deluding myself I needed it on the car, but I’ll resubscribe for the new car.

Owning any vehicle worth over £10k while living full time in London is a recipe for heartbreak. May as well get a cheap beater, then it won't hurt so much when it gets vandalised or stolen by the typical BBC overemphasized 'British' citizen.

They’re stolen because they’re £9.5k for a set!

Nick a pair and then resell them on the second hand market for a few grand. Easy money.

Which gen of Cayenne started having the expensive lights fitted, or does it affect all?

Some pics attached - my car, a 3rd gen 2019 Cayenne with the PDLS+ lights. I believe the earlier gen has the headlight release from inside the bonnet, possibly the same on the Taycan, hence the angle grinder approach.

The reason this pair of muppets smashed my window was to steal the dashcam which is shock activated and would've captured their faces.

So if you up the security, they'll just cause more damage cos they're scum and would rather sneak about the streets at 2.30am causing misery for others than put a bit of effort in and do something positive for their loved ones and society in general.

That makes no sense though, the cars are severely damaged by the removal so the owner won’t be buying a new set on eBay, they will claim on the insurance and these sorts of lights don’t fail much and if they do, the are failing on cars under factory warranty so they are replaced anyway.

Oh and you can’t just fit them to a car that had the cheaper ones fitted as they would need coding and finding someone with access to the latest PIWIS Porsche software to do that is difficult, it’s not like VCDS for Audis whiz. You can buy for a few 100 quid.

Sorry to see you were also targeted. Looks like they smashed the window to open the bonnet.. on the gen2 access to the lights is from inside the engine bay.

I'll let you know how I get on with the CarLock system and have emailed Sextons about better security.

Feel free to share security tips if you come across anything..

These are the scumbags that stole mine and looks like the same guys came back 4 weeks later for my neighbour (the guys holding the lights).. we both have cctv footage from multiple angles.. also a white van pulled up and was waiting down the road.

Still no car back, it's been 2 months now although the garage tell me the parts order is coming through now..
