Hi folks

I just had my tyres removed to fit winter tyres and it looks like there has been some damage to the tyres when removing. 2 are fine, two have light damage as shown in the pics. Are the tyres beyond economic repair?

Not sure that part is structural anyway as it’s not the bead which seals on the wheel.

It’ll be hard to prove they were damaged on removal as opposed to fitting.

Dare I say provided they fit and seal ok in the Spring I’d not worry.

It just looks like moulding 'flashing', rubber that hasn't been trimmed when it was moulded. If it's below the bead then no issue.

Known in the trade as a ripped tyre
May or may not seal and if it does may bulge out.
Solution to that will be new tyre as the bead is damaged.
The whole bead is part of the sealing of the tyre against the rim.

There is no way of repairing the damage so, while the issue isn't beyond economic repair, they are simply un-repairable.

Having said that the damage looks like it is on the extra bit of rubber just off the bead seating area, so is unlikely to be an issue as long as they seal when refitted.

Oh and have a look at it from the inside if bead wires are visible through the rip it’s for the bin unfortunately.
Tyre fitting is so easy most would have you believe anyone can do it.
As you can see not the case

Thanks all, was hoping to sell the tyres but will probably scrap them to be on the safe side

Fitting is easy, but the machines are designed for replacing tyres, not removing ones you want to reuse.

It's possible to have tyres removed without damaging them, but equally possible to damage them.

I'm on my 4th season with my winter tyres and they are mounted on alloys 1 inch smaller in diameter. I'm sure it wouldn't be good for them to be removed and fitted 4 times.

And the significance of that is?

Better to have winters permanently mounted on alloys or steelies - you can pick up cheap alloys on Facebook Marketplace. Going one size down reduces the cost of winter tyres, along with better ride comfort.

Yes, I already know all of that, but I read it as the 1" smaller size was significant to the changes required, my bad.
