In the mood for a new 50mm prime and looking at the Sony G series 1.2. I know the manufacturers set the prices so they're all pretty much the same wherever you look but not for this:

WEX, my normal supplier want over £2k

SLR Hut want £1.3k.

E-Infinity are asking £1.1k

MPB have a second hand one for £1.4k

They're all exactly the same lenses so trying to figure out why such a spread of costs.

I'm guessing grey import but I didn't think SLR Hut do that. Never heard of E-Infinity.

If they are grey imports, is that such a bad thing for what is a reasonably simple bit of kit? 40 years of taking photos I've never once had a lens go wrong.

No idea about that specific Sony lens, but prices often vary wildly.
I've bought grey market lenses in the past, and like you I have never had a lens go wrong. At this point I reckon I've saved more than replacing a lens would cost. I've used Cotswold cameras in the past. Quick delivery, and they warranty the lens themselves for 3 years and get it repaired for you if it breaks.

They're doing it for £1149, so I suspect those priced closely to that would alse be grey imports.

I've always had very good service from Panamoz, they have it for £1290

I bought the same lens from Cotswold Cameras and saved over £800 on the mainstream camera stores. Yes it’s grey market, like Panomoz they include a 3 year warranty.

Lens took a week from order to delivery, kept up to date by them along the way.

Looking at buying a Sony A7RV or the Sony a7v from them depending what the a7v specs are when released early next year.

As an aside the Lens is fantastic.

Also look at the used prices at Wex, MPB etc. some are pretty much as new when you see them, and are keenly priced. I once had a Sigma lens for a month bought at Wex, sold it back to Wex, and without even opening the box they gave me what I’d paid. I didn’t realise I had an honest face!

Just be thankful we have a choice these days.
