May seem like an odd request but I need to buy some grease tomorrow for our roller shutter at work, it’s sticking.

I have checked and the runners are bone dry no lubricant at all, I’m not surprised really as it’s not been touched in 12 years since it was fitted.

I have just had a look on tool station and to be honest I have no idea what I need.
It’s for a single shutter over front door, so I don’t need loads.

Toolstation is ideal as I pass it on the way to the office.

Any recommendations appreciated

Silicone grease. Small tube will be really cheap or you can get a spray.

Multipurpose.
How will you apply it. Can you spread it on the bearing surface or does it need to be sprayed on and let it seep into where it's needed
A tub of multipurpose if you can slap it on or GT85 aerosol is good, better than WD40.

A lot of roller shutters are specifically not to use grease.

There is a fibre ribbon on the doors that slides in the slot.

Just remember grease attracts dust and other things, and eventually clogs up, so not ideal for use in open areas, a silicone spray would probably work better.

I would echo others in that you may not need any greaae / lubricant depending on the type of shutters.

We have a massive roller shutter on our premises and were told to leave it by the company that installed a replacement motor for us.

I would check first as you may create more problems than it solves.

It’s not the motor it’s the rails at each side are bone dry and it’s sticking going down, I remember when we had it fitted it was coated in grease. That was around 13 years ago it’s never been touched since.

I will pick up some multi purpose grease tomorrow and apply it with a paint brush.

You want silicone grease. Have a Google if you don’t believe me. It’s the best option to not attract dirt over time.

You sure about that? If it's the style of door I'm used to, those slides are exposed to the environment and grease there would tend to attract dirt and grit. You might find dry graphite power works better in that environment - it provides lubrication without providing somewhere for dirt to stick.

Ive seen them coated in grease in industrial settings ive worked in, its probably not right but people do it when it starts to make noises.
Any old stuff will do if you intend to go through with it, multipurpose as suggested is what most will have on the shelf.
