Very minor item but I find it annoying.

I purchased a Chimaera with the Leven aluminium handbrake grip, but they left the button black. I wanted to change this to an aluminium one, but no matter how I try I can’t remove the grip to see how the button is fixed.

Anyone know how it is fixed and if it can be removed/replaced without removing the grip?

On my ally handbrake there is an allen key socket underneath on the underside of the handle. Hard to see but you should be able to find it by feel.

Same as above & I think the knob is screwed on.

Hi, thanks. I had found and removed the grub screw from under the grip, but still couldn’t remove the grip?
I note someone has said that they think that the button is screwed on, but I’m reluctant to try this unless someone is sure about this in case I somehow break it and a black button is better than not being able to operate the handbrake at all

The press has been historically made to the wrong thread as alloy, M5 instead of 2BA and why they can fail and people revert to the black OE item. I had some made in S/S as all my cars either had chrome or black. I cannot see any reason for removing the grip the press should spin off. A@

On mine the alloy grip has 3 small Allen grub screws.
The press part simply slides up through the grip and is retained in the grip by virtue of the press button part having a slightly wider base than the hole in the top of the grip.
You then slide the grip with press button in place over the handbrake lever until the press button part is tight to the handbrakes press button then nip up the grub screws in the alloy grip. This holds the Leven alloy press button in place. It is effectively not fixed to anything.

There should be absolutely no reason to remove the brake lever press button at all!

yikes

They have handbrakes?

hehe

I just thought it was an ornament, as lifting it up seemed to make no difference to anything!

Unfortunately, as I said, I have removed the grub screw (only one on mine) but try as I might I can’t get to remove the grip. I presume that it slides over the original rubber grip so I don’t know if this one has been glued into place but it’s not budging. That’s why I was hoping that the button could be removed without removing the grip.

I did say it simply spins off without removing the grip ...but once the alloy ones are forced on to the wrong thread (M5 instead of 2BA) IF the thread get damaged/stripped the plastic one might have been glued on. A@
