Two moto folds down it's time for a change. I need a new phone.

£300 max
Android
Great cameras Inc. Dedicated zooms
Side fingerprint sensor, not screen
OLED
6.5 or more " Screen

Enjoyed the Moto experience other than the stupid fragile folding screens. Love Xiomis.

Open to suggestions. Happy to buy a grey import.

Just over budget (by £15) - Google Pixel 7 Pro

Superb phone and better than any of the Chinese likes you'll get on Amazon - plus it's Vanilla Android

Or see if you can get a new-opened or immaculate used example

I can't think of any phones with a side fingerprint sensor, they are pretty much all on the screen now.

I know its over your stated maximum budget but a Pixel 7a is currently £349 on the Google store. It is available at 24 months 0% finance at £14.54 a month.

Got one of these for my mum earlier in the year, a cracking phone that looks like it will just about fit the bill, only thing missing is 6.5 inch screen (it's 6.1 so still very useable).

Fingerprint sensor is on the side which I prefer, has a decent camera and OLED screen, plus a 3.5mm jack and SD Card slot. It's not quite vanilla Android but very close to it, and Sony are pretty good with speed of updates now.

After you've used a side sensor on the power button you'll really scratch you head why it's not more common.

Thanks all, will have a peruse

OnePlus could be a go'er?

Fingerprint scanner is on the screen again but it gets rave reviews:

Given the specificness of your request, it's a good candidate for copilot (other AIs are available).

Mine reponded:

"
Thanks for the details! Here are a few Android phones under £300 that meet your criteria:

Google Pixel 7a: Known for its excellent camera performance, stock Android experience, and a 90Hz OLED display. It also has a side-mounted fingerprint sensor1.

Samsung Galaxy M31s: This phone features a 6.5-inch AMOLED display, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, and a capable camera setup.

Xiaomi Mi 10i: Offers a 108MP camera, 120Hz refresh rate display, and a side-mounted fingerprint sensor.

Realme X3 Zoom: Comes with a Snapdragon 855+ chipset, a 120Hz display, and a dedicated zoom camera. It also has a side-mounted fingerprint sensor2.

These phones should provide a great experience and meet your requirements. If you're open to grey imports, you might find even more options within your budget.

Would you like more information on any of these models or help with where to find them?

and also a great example of why AI is sometimes flawed, I can't vouch for the other phones but the Pixel 7a does not have a side mounted fingerprint sensor. My wife has that phone, it is definitely a screen fingerprint sensor.

Not to mention I already have a Mi note 10 and its sevwral years out of date, and does not had a side fingerprint sensor.

AI can simply Foxtrot Oscar. It's not ready. STOP quoting it as an "answer". (this does worry me.......)

Again, thanks for all the (human) ideas. lots to research.

I'm with you on the side finger print sensor - I've lost count of how many Sonys I've had now and they've stuck with it over the years. Means you can wake the phone and unlock it in one go, so is a bit more convenient for me since Google killed Double Tap to Wake.

I love Sony phones, had at least 4.or 5 but stopped now because they just aren't updated like others. Unless I'm wrong?

I hope I'm wrong as I'd love another. My Pixel 7a has a brilliant camera but the on screen fingerprint sensor is total st and the battery life not much good. Nor can I expand the memory.

Firstly, thanks for all the suggestions. I'm holding off until my return to the UK in Feb.

I nearly pulled the trigger on a Xiaomi 13 pro plus in Thailand but tbh, I can do without till I get home , but there is another deciding factor .. now being back on my older Xiaomi mi note 10 it is painful obvious typing was waaaay better on the Moto razr 40. I'm back to millions of mistakes now. Any idea why ? It's not like the screens are much different in size

Why the latest model? For your price range you could buy a pre-loved, refurbished high spec model.
