My girlfriend is taking me to a race of my choice (within reason!) this year and my dream race has always been Monza. Can anyone recommend any package tours or is it easier/better to book the accommodation, transfers and entry yourself? Any advice or insight appreciated

Can't advise on benefits of packages specific to Monza as I have never been, but when going to Spa or Budapest I have found it to be cheaper to put it together myself rather than use an agent.

However I have read some recent horror stories of the fan experience at Monza. It does seem to revolve around general admission, where viewing is nearly impossible and the facilities are shocking. Worth bearing in mind and opting for a grandstand seat IMO. Plenty of videos online relating to it.

In terms of value for money and also the adventure outside of the race the Hungarian GP at Budapest can't be beaten. Done this and Monza, where we stayed in Como (an amazing place too) but the actual event was far better organised in Hungary and getting to and from the venue was far less stressful.

Thank you for the feedback. Can you elaborate on the stress of getting to the venue please? After a little bit of discussion the plan is forming to make more of a holiday out of the trip. We’re thinking of staying in Milan and getting the train out. I understand there isn’t a train directly to the track but Inhave read there are shuttle buses covering that part of the journey? I get that this is in Italy so “shuttle buses” could very well mean an old guy and a Fiat Multipla or worse…

I’m not such a fan of the Hungaroring as a track and while I appreciate Budapest is probably an incredible city to visit we love Italy so I’m kind of set on that

A forum search for Monza brings up very similar threads for each of the past three years.

https://www.pistonheads.com/search#gsc.tab=0&g...

The circuit is possible to walk from the station, but it’s an hour’s walk. Many people stay in cities nearby and commute daily by train.

There have been recent issues with arbitrary confiscations on the gate (including water), and with F&B queuing / vouchers, which seemed to be better last year.

But it’s Monza, the Tifosi are going to have a British driver to cheer for next year, and the atmosphere in the stands is likely to be fantastic. Best of luck whatever you do!

Fair enough, Como was an amazing place to stay, lots to see and the food was excellent. Travelling to and from the circuit was a pain, we went in 2022, it was apparent they oversold tickets and the whole running of the event was a nightmare, I heard in 2023 it had improved and there are lots of horror stories on the web, so I won't dwell too much at experience on the circuit itself. From Como you can get a train to Monza station, from there a coach and after that a long walk to the circuit itself. The queues for this where quite large. Day 2 we got a second train from Monza station to the back of the circuit, Biassono Lesmo Parco. From there you have a 5 minute walk to the circuit, again though it can be a long wait to get into the circuit depending on when you arrive. Plus at the time of year its +30 with no shade. Leaving in the afternoon we got a train the second day from that station and then changed at Molteno? to get to Como, the train was quiet/empty compared to heading back to Monza and then Como, it took more time but it's a scenic ride and not too stressful. Race day, the trains from Monza to Biassono did not run, instead we had to go all the way into Milan and then get on the free train back to Biassono, same coming back, was a pain but workable. Maybe they fixed that for 2023, in the year we went there was plenty of rail strikes going on and lots of reduced services.

We also went to watch the Moto GP in Misano, which ran the week before. I think in 2025 Moto GP is the following weekend after the F1 race. Easy to get from Milan to Rimini or Catollica by train or car, plus between the two events you can head over via Bologna and visit all the car museums as you go (Ferrari, Lambo & Pagani).

You're possibly a bit late for tickets - I got mine a couple of months ago and availability was limited in the best grandstands then, with practically none available direct. You'll also likely be paying through the nose for accommodation now.

If it helps I bought mine from motorsporttickets.com, worth having a look just in case they still have availability. Best of luck.
