Hello, I’m trying to work out the engine number on my Focus ST-3… Ford tells me that:

“The engine number is stamped on the engine block near the gearbox on the front left-hand side facing the radiator.”

It’s clear where it is on the pictures I see on the web - but these are of engines that are out of the car… with the engine in situ is there a way to see this number without removing various parts? I am aware there is a sticker with a bar code on the side of the top cover of the engine, with bar codes, etc. Trouble is that this is partly worn off so I’m looking to be able to remove all doubt by getting sight of the number stamped on the block itself.

I had a go looking from above but to no avail… Can I see this from underneath? Or are there parts i need to remove to get a clear view?

Any advice most welcomed!

Thanks in advance

I might be reading that wrong but isn't your engine number on the top right of the V5? If not then it's the last 7 digits of your VIN.

ETA - or do you actually need to check the number on the block?

Hi - thanks, yes I do need to check the one on the block. I know where it’s supposed to be, but have not figured out how to get to it physically without taking bits off! Cheers.
