There used to be a meme with “My name is Michael Caine, did you know that…” followed by a random, mildly interesting but random and useless fact. You probably have to be over a certain age to remember that!

Anyway, what mildly interesting but useless fact would you like to share?

I can start with something shared by someone at tennis yesterday. Apparently, even though yesterday wasn’t the shortest day, it was the day with the earliest sunset. The sunset today will be a little later. However, because sunrise is still getting later the day will be a bit shorter and that will continue until the 21st when sunrises start to get earlier again. I have to say I haven’t checked this fact! It seems unlikely that someone would invent something so nerdy (the person at tennis fully qualifies in that regard!)

The first fact is that his name is Michael (not Micheal) Caine.

Perhaps I should start a thread with words you always have a tendency to misspell! I am not dyslexic but there are some words I always struggle with. Michael obviously one of them! I much prefer phonetic languages like German, Spanish, Hindi and Japanese. If old English hadn’t been infected by French and the Nordic languages spelling would probably be easier.

Don't beat yourself up, can't you see the ironic humour in getting the first fact wrong in a thread about facts?

By birth yes, but apparently he legally changed it to save hassle at airports, etc.

I have to say that whenever I read or hear “Steve McQueen” a very different person comes to mind.

I knew you were being ironic but I think that the name divides the generations. I suspect for Brits under 30 (maybe older) the name Steve McQueen would mean the British director rather than the American actor.

I recall the meme as "And not many people know that". But Michael Caine never said it, it was Peter Sellers.
