I just saw Guy Martin use a phone to 'read' Russian text. He held the phone up to it and English appeared on the screen.

Seems like something out of Star Trek to me. Does anyone know which app it is?

Possibly a Samsung, my S24+ has the facility but I haven't used it yet. It's part of the AI software installed on the phone.

I have that on my PC and laptop, but it only does text, and you have to copy and paste it.

This one was like a magic camera.

Thanks, I didn't know that. I'll give it a go.

It's the translate app, there's a camera button on it.

It can also do real time speech translation.
As the other poster said it's been a thing for years smile

Yes, I use the Google translate app for this. It's pretty good tbh, has improved over the years.

You said he was using his phone, the app was inferred.

Google translate does much more than that even on a pc, you can give it a url and it will translate the entire site. Or in chrome just use the drop down top right.

On iPhone, tap the aA on the left of the address bar, click translate to English.

Correct; I rarely use a smartphone. This is forward planning for a trip to France next year.
