Why so many Copilots?
Discussion
There are plenty of software products I use on a regular basis - Word, Excel, Slack, Zoominfo, Salesforce, Photoshop, Copilot, Asana, etc, etc...
You may have noticed that these all have one thing in common. They're universally referred to by a single word, and whether that's the product name as in Excel or Photoshop or the company name as in Salesforce or Asana, that single word is recognised.
Except, I've just discovered thanks to a rather perplexing conversation with a colleague, I should've said almost all of them are universally recognised as such.
When I was referring to Copilot, I was thinking of Microsoft Copilot, whereas my colleague was thinking of Zoominfo Copilot! It seems that nobody had copyright on the name Copilot, but we've all become so used to using copyrighted names that it hasn't occurred to either of us for a good 5 minutes that we were referring to completely different products!
Any thoughts as to why nobody copyrighted "Copilot", and why so many people use it to refer to their AI capabilities even though it can be really confusing and lead people to maybe mistakenly think their AI capabilities actually belong to someone else?
