I'm sure there is a thread on this but the search doesn't work.

Criminology student 'butchered' personal trainer at random on Bournemouth beach to find out what it was like to kill after asking his lecturers how to get away with murder, court hears

Seems the prosecution case is that it was truly random in terms of the victims albeit planned in terms of the crime.

Utterly evil.

In cases like this involving serious premeditated violence I feel that the accused should be compelled to give Police access to their mobile device.

I’m somewhat perplexed that he didn’t try a defence of insanity, on the basis that approaching two random strangers on a beach and stabbing them for the fun of it is pretty insane. Maybe he is just plain old evil.

I hope he gets a 40yr stretch.

(Rhetorical question) what happens after 40 years at His Majesty’s pleasure? Will he be rehabilitated and safe to release into the community to play his active part in society?

The actual answer is 'released on licence, subject to recall to prison at any time if he breaches the conditions of that licence', if the Parole Board deems him fit for release.

However I very much suspect he will die of natural causes or, (with a bit of luck) via extreme prison violence in the interim.

Note that he is not due to be sentenced until end of March 2025, the 40yrs quoted above is wishful thinking on my part.
