Why are the cup holders so small?

Conventional Yeti doesn't fit.
Weird stackable Yeti fits. But look at it. And it's small.

What's the discerning BMW driver's vessel of choice these days when in need of substantial volumes of caffeine with oddly small bases?

And no, it doesn't need an ///M logo nor to be carbon fibre smile

NOT a middle-class challenge; decidedly chavvy.

In before someone points out BMW are in fact council and the holders are designed to fit a can of energy drink.

Middle Class Challenge - beleiving that a ridiculously sized 'tik tok special' enormous Yeti cup is somehow 'middle class'.

Council as it gets that.

I was expecting a roasting, so long as the beans behind it are good I don't mind!

My 5 series has two cupholders in front of the gear lever with adjustable spring loaded grippers, so it fits everything from a small takewaway coffee cup to one of my large water bottles smile

I have those exact beverage vessels. They aren’t ridiculously sized.
You are thinking of those monstrous 4 gallon Stanley jugs that are all the rage.

Sell your BMW. Those cups fit perfectly in my tesla.

My Bodum insulated cafetiere and my 500ml bottles of San Pellegrino fit in the cup holders in my 4 series just perfectly. If that's not a middle class win I don't know what is.

Funnily enough that how this undiscerning BMW Driver gets his caffeine hit in the morning if required. Cupholders in my old 1 Series are perfect for a can of Relentless and I can fit my vape in the other one.

The last bit is a lie - it's normally a packet of Marlboro instead.

I think it's more of a "Keeping up with the Jones's" problem - your BMW is obviously too new!

My 2007 E87 had those fixed type holders (that you couldn't use with the armrest in place). mad

My 2005 E90 and 2006 E86 both have retractable holders that would accommodate a cup that size, although the E86 ones are prone to snapping.

My experience with BMW cup holders;

5' e39 - rubbish, both front and rear, don't bother. If you do, then the interior temp sensor is located right infront of the cup holders, meaning hot drinks make the car go gold and vice-versa. The cup then obscures the temperature buttons, meaning its difficult to adjust.

5' e60 / 3' e90 - Pinnacle of cup holders, perfectly located. Great in every way.

5' f10 - manual models, cup fits, but located right where your arm needs to go in order to use the idrive. Auto models - OK, ish - not perfect but acceptable.

Classy people drive an E63 6 series with no cup holder. biggrin

(and yes I know a weird stand alone cup holder was an option...but I don't have it! wink )

My 5 series doesn’t have any cupholders, so that my full attention can be devoted to driving and then coffee can be drunk at my destination.

I do have a multitude of ash trays though, should I wish to smoke.

First post on PH and decided I have to give my 2 pence worth on this biggrin

E85 3.0i - Worst cup holders in the world. Would give up holding and spill my organic home roasted coffee every time you went round a corner.

Currently have a diesel E91 and the cup holders are great for both takeaway coffee through to my albeit small Stanley flask smile

Yeti rambler stronghold. Comes with a handle, and the lid is a lot better designed. It's fits in all our cars.
