Romanian history
Discussion
Evening folks, can anyone recommend any decent books about Romania?
I realise I have a lack of knowledge of the whole area, having chatted to colleagues who come from the region (I'm working with folks from Romania, Hungary, Croatia, etc.), I want to educate myself on their countries histories, what makes them tick, etc.
I'm working most closely with Romanians so thought I'd start there; maybe not so much ancient history, say from the 1930's onwards? Other than Ceausescu and the Top Gear Transfagarasan visit, I'm a bit clueless. We've done the vampire jokes already
I've also an interest in the second world war, so books on that in the region would be good too (I know about the Ploesti oilfields, for example)

Try Children of the Night by Paul Kenyon. He mixes 20th century and stories from his wife's family in Romania.
