Hey, so I've always wanted an ef and ones come up I'm hopefully going to look at Monday as it currently stands it's got a d14a1 im going from a mk1 mx5 so I'm used to slow but not sure how much worse 90 is going to feel lol.

I've had 3 5s now so wanted to try something else and I've always loved the shape of the ef and the kanjo culture. The thing that attracted me to this one is the shell has basically been stripped and re done so body wise it's mint and it's a 5 speed manual.

But my main question is how much do you reckon id be looking at and ideally someone putting it in for a b16a or possibly even k but I think I'd prefer a b16 or b18 tbh It feels more period correct for the car.

But either way I'm going to have to drive it as it is for a while all 1.4 of it lol so not sure if im about to make a mistake and regret my decision lol.

They're great cars, they're light (I think the 1.4 is just under a tonne iirc) and have front wishbone and rear multi link suspension so handle great with lots of feedback and adjustability. If you don't like it you should easily be able to sell and get most of your money back.

You'll need a lot of stuff, preferably a complete setup from a donor EF9 or EE CRX, and the chances of finding that for sensible money
is slim to non existent. Done many B series into EFs and 16v CRX, but back in the day when you could pick them up fairly readily (early 2000s)

Some of the things you will need aside the engine and all it's ancillaries and a Y1 gearbox....

VT Shift linkages

VT / SiR / CUSTOM manifold

VT or SiR bonnet, a valver / dual carb bonnet will hit the B series rocker cover.

Full V-TEC wiring loom, clocks and ECU.

VT rear engine mount and custom side mounts for engine and box

VT driveshafts and intermediate shaft, hubs.

VT fuel tank and pump

Uprated radiator

Plus various other bits and modifications.

You'd probably be better off searching for an EF9 complete car on the road, but.......... hens teeth and all that.

I sold this lot not that long ago because I just couldn't find a decent enough donor to put it in, they've all corroded into oblivion around here.

Oh damn that's definitely not what I wanted to hear yeah finding an ef9 would be impossible there isn't many efs for sale nevermind an ef9 hmm I'll have to decide then whether it's worth getting rid of the 5 for guessing all the other engines I listed are near enough a non starter too then?
