How do I lock the doors?

Apologies that this is probably a repeat question, but the PH search seems broken again.
I've just gotten my Ultima on the road. How do I lock the doors? I'm using the standard Ultima locks. I have the keys sorted out. The keys turn just shy of 90 degrees in the lock, but I can't remove the key, and I can't seem to work out how they should activate the lock.
How do they lock? And should I jump in to adjust the locks in some fashion?
