This is a film made by the director of tests for the IAM in 1963.

Highlights I found interesting are "Speed is not dangerous. It's speed in the wrong place..." and flashing lights and hitting the horn at a car dawdling in lane two, eliciting a very 21st century response.

I'm glad that cyclist did actually turn left at 2.45!

And at 4:20, after having been overtaken by a Police car on an emergency, "even Police cars have to obey the traffic lights". When did they get emergency permission to go through red, I wonder?

The IAM was formed in 1956 and has over 68,000 members nationally all of whom have taken and passed an advanced test in a car, commercial vehicle or on a motorcycle, there are 160 groups, and 5,000 volunteers.

And I recently renewed mine and got an expiry date of 01/01/1900 which means my renewal expired 56 years before the IAM was thought of.

A new renewal card is in the post and I’ll keep this as a souvenir.

Ian.
