992.2 Base anyone driven yet
Discussion
Not driven yet, but I think a standard car on 19/20s maybe with the noise insulating glass and no sunroof would be your optimal 992 pick if trying to minimise noise. But you will still hear tyre roar.
Tolerable? Yes, easily at least for my subjective tastes.
There are many other cars out there that offer just as much pace with more refined cabins. Unfortunately the 911 is rather compromised in that area. One of the cars only significant weaknesses really.
One other thing to consider: there are aftermarket car hifi companies that will install very high end audio speaker and amp packages into the 992. As part of the package they install additional sound deadening to screen out road noise. They are quite expensive and obviously involve some tattooed bloke with a spanner (ohh... I can imagine people getting triggered with me saying that) taking your pride and joy apart. But that is another extreme way to go. I think it is cheaper and easier for them to do this from a car with the standard audio (not Bose or Burmester).

Thanks, I can sort of get my head round it being noisier than some equivalents, I had a day in 992T which was not too bad actually, Just needs to be the best version a 992 can be and wondered if 992.2 was different. Understand tyre brand can play a part too. Just needs to be Ok enough to choose to take it for 50 mile sort of mundane journeys rather than grab keys to something I know is comfy. Hatfield have one will go have a try.
Didn't Chris Harris say that the GTS was quieter than previous generations?

again, he is driving the car in Spain with perfectly smooth roads, the kind you never, ever see in the UK.See video below at 1:50

Also fairly interested in this thread.
Agree with OP, 992.2 may well be the pick of the bunch, T is too hard for UK roads and no sound deadening, 992 turbo is far too fast for the road to the point of being frustrating to drive (for me at least), S is not out yet, GTS is too stiff / too fast and again reduced sound deadening, Dakar would be ideal if they do it again in some sort of format.
There is an article in latest CAR magazine on the base 992.2 and all very positive ... concludes
"The switch from .1 to .2 is a subtle evolution .... and there's certainly very little to be upset about and a lot to enjoy - albeit pretty much the same things there were to enjoy on the 992.1"
the article itself is more positive than the conclusion I felt. Encouraging.

Is the T as hard as the GTS?
In 992.2 form it really appeals to me.
Is the GTS ride "hard"? I don't think so, or at least not necessarily: it is - as usual with Porsche - very specification dependent. Unfortunately unless you pester every dealer within an 70 miles radius from where you live you are very unlikely to be able to try all of the 911 suspension variations. In 992.2 form it really appeals to me.
My 992.1 GTS has GTS lowered suspension, steel brakes and critically the adaptive roll bars, PDCC. Rather than make the car ride harder (which is what I expected before having tried the option) it does the opposite. It allows the roll bars to be slackened off when not needed and stiffen when chucking the car around. My GTS is quite noisy inside the cabin no doubt with all the tyre noise. But it is surprisingly comfortable for a sports car. More comfortable in fact then my old MP4-12C with the fancy cross linked hydraulic suspension that was supposed to make the McLaren comfortable, but in my experience never worked very well at low speeds.
The suspension technology has definitely moved on to allow car designers to get away with every bigger wheels, shorter walled tyres without such big ride comfort compromises.

Hard? I've found my 992.1 GTS to be softer and quieter in comparison to my old 997 Turbo. Mind you it'll be like driving with no suspension after -3 months in a Macan whilst I wait for the wheels to be fixed! My 992.1 GTS has GTS lowered suspension, steel brakes and critically the adaptive roll bars, PDCC.
