991.2 New owner, couple of questions
Discussion
Just into a 991.2 GT3, but thought these questions probably apply to the 991.2 in general....
1) I'm using it about once a week. With this use pattern, do people tend to leave them on a cartek or equivalent charger ? If so, I assume I can do this via one of the 12v cig lighter sockets ?
2) Apply car play - I'm a little confused as to whether it's supposed to work via wireless as well as wired, though I must admit this is only through reading about it. I've not had chance to try it as yet. But a definitive view would be welcomed (it's a May 2018 car)
Many thanks.

If you are using it once a week it really depends on your mileage profile as to whether the battery will need topping up or not other factors include whether you garage the car or leave it outside also whether the car is locked with alarm set which can run the battery down quite quickly in sub freeezing temps quite quickly.
C tek smart chargers are perfect I have several and the 991.2 GT3 unlike some newer Porsche GTs can be charged directly from the cigarette lighter socket on the central console (£40 optional extra when new). If the car is outside you can run the lead out to the bottom of the door shut without problem.
Hope you are enjoying the car.

Thanks all for info....Car is garaged with alarm and tracker on, but the the once a week is generally a decent 30/40 miler on open roads so I think I'll see how this goes. It does have the optional cig lighter in the centre console, so should be easy to run a Ctek in if needed. When I tested my battery (now six years old),after a couple of weeks it was down to 12.2v, maybe having lost 40% of its charge ... but only another 20% discharge might compromise a properly cold start ... so if I haven't driven the car for a couple of weeks I will connect the charger and it quickly tops up the battery.
It also helps the battery life for the battery not to become too discharged ... in the same way that keeping a battery on constant trickle charge can damage it ... I believe the CTEK type smart chargers manage this for maximum battery life ...

Yep seem to recollect I bought my Ctek MX5 3.8 for both the 2018 GT3 and 2018 Carrera T in 2019 or 2020 it may have been superceeded now but it is a 7 stage charger which shows you the exact charging state of the battery and I leave it on charge for up to 3 days in the winter but believe you can leave it on indefinitely through the winter if need be and some do including OPCs but I wouldn't personally.
It also came with quite a few attachments for various cars including ability to charge directly to the battery itself but remember the negative lead should be earthed to the earthing point located adjoining the offside front
suspension strut on Porsches not connected to the negative battery terminal.

Thanks - That's the Ctek that I have the MX5 with as you say 7 / 8 charging status's. I've used it to good effect on other cars, so I think I'll go with anything more than a week of non use (criminal !) I'll plu g it into the cig lighter....rather than mess about with battery or risk it going the voltage dropping too far and starting to cause issuesIt also came with quite a few attachments for various cars including ability to charge directly to the battery itself but remember the negative lead should be earthed to the earthing point located adjoining the offside front

My use profile is similar to yours, barring the odd longer run. Mine is also a May 18 car. I generally plug a ctek charger in irrespective and use the cigarette lighter socket in the passenger footwell, make sure it’s turned on/powered up pretty soon after you turn the ignition off or the power to the socket is cut off.
Re CarPlay, I’ve found it a little frustrating, but you seem to need to plug your phone into the usb port under the centre armrest AND have you phone unlocked. Once done CarPlay works ok.

[2) Apply car play - I'm a little confused as to whether it's supposed to work via wireless as well as wired, though I must admit this is only through reading about it. I've not had chance to try it as yet. But a definitive view would be welcomed (it's a May 2018 car)]
I use a wireless adapter and works brilliantly. Plugs in the centre armrest USB port and phone connects via Bluetooth wirelessly seamlessly each time I use the car.

Funnily enough, I picked this up off a different forum and I intend to look at it. I did get a brand to check but can't remember right now, but that seems the best solution. I think the adaptor I came across was maybe £80ish.....I use a wireless adapter and works brilliantly. I am using this one, as I say, all good now had for over a year -https://www.nmautomotive.co.uk/product-page/pcm-4-wireless-carplay-and-android-auto-add-onYou dont have to spend much these days for wireless carplay, stuff like this works on most '17> cars : https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0DJ5JT9MT

Defo don’t need a charger. Porsche battery management is excellent in my experience. Many weeks can pass between restarts with mine and never had an issue
I'd agree with this. I have gone weeks without using my 991.2 and have never had an issue starting the car. I believe the car goes into a low power mode if you don't use it for a certain period of time. guyvert1 said:
