I've had an absolutely nightmare with a Landrover discovery d300 commercial 2021

the vehicle is owned and operated by my company and is crucial for my line of work. ( events company ) frequently accessing fields with heavy trailers ect.

a year ago the engine failed. (turbo failure took out the engine ). It was recovered to a main dealer and had the engine replaced under warranty. along with a service and new brake pads/discs.

due a parts being on back order the car was in the garage for nearly 4 months.

the problems then started when I collected the car.

constant squeal on brakes
noticed a wheel nut missing a week after
ad blue fault.
emissions in cab
brakedown due to hose pipe blowing off ( mechanical fixing not secured properly.)

the car was returned to the dealer twice. the second time to sort the squeal out. which resulted in the car going into fault whilst on the ramp and them having it for nearly a week!

a long story short, a few months went by without an issues and then at beginning of September the engine failed again. 9,000 miles since the new one.
this time due to a faulty oil housing...

all in all the car has been off the road for nearly 8 months in the last year and I have been in a number of courtesy cars since. most of which unsuitable due to not being commercial variants.

the car was purchased privately and has no finance. so I am wondering what my options are. although not financially out of pocket through the engine failures. the inconvenience and the constant back and forward to the dealership has effected both the resale value and loss of earnings.

I'm wondering if anyone has experienced similar with the brand and has attempted to recover loss of earnings and/or compensation?

Lots of stories of failed engines on this on the forums. JLR being avoided by most of their long term faithful now.

You’ll struggle to get any loss of earnings but you should be able to make them buy it back for a reasonable price given how useless it’s been and I wouldn’t have settled for a replacement any less capable of towing as a courtesy car.

He didn't buy it from the dealer that to be fair have sorted him out under warranty.

a) What if they dont have a suitable courtesy car for towing whatever it is the OP tows. Also clue in "courtesy" not "guaranteed like for like"
b) Frankly, they dont owe him anything. He bought a car privately and its gone wrong. They've honoured their part with the free repairs. Twice.

If he'd bought from the dealer in the first place there would definitely be more good will from them to help him. Indeed if hed bought from a dealer there might even be that stipulation in the contract.

But he didn't.

There's nothing stopping him from renting his own suitable hire car at his expense. But it seems he thinks it better to rant at the wrong people instead...

Just make sure you learn the lesson and don't buy a LR product again.

Enough people do though so I guess they'll carry on coming bottom of most reliability surveys.

Toyota Land cruiser is the answer.

I was hoping it was going to be. underpowered and overpriced. less spec, less power and the same money as a defender?

the only lesson ive learnt is to buy with finance and probably through a dealer? would a buy another? absolutely. when they're working they're fantastic.

Is it overpriced when you consider yours has been off the road for 8 months ? hehe

I don’t get this either, it’s been broken at a dealers for 8 months out of 12 and you’d happily have another describe it as ‘fantastic’? Madness to me. It would have been sold long ago and replaced with something the furthest away from JLR I could find if it was me.
