First world problem I know but I've been gifted £250k - but ideally I don't really want it seen as being part of my current estate for a while. What are my options?

Ok, I'll bite, protecting from what?

Global meltdown, potential ex-wife, taxes ?!

OK, for a while suggests you're not checking out soon so this isn't an IHT issue.

Let's assume this gift is totally legitimate so you don't need to shield yourself from any wrongdoing and/or have any issues with HMRC.

My guess is you're looking to bin your wife but don't want her getting her hands on it?

If that's the case a competent solicitor should be able to advise you how to (or whether you can) put the money into a trust - so it's no longer yours.

Sounds like your Username is spot on, or perhaps a bit optimistic, after the ex-wife and/or taxman spot this. Gaines125 before tax might be nearer the mark. wink

Good luck.

100% tax paid via dis investing from a pension at circa 50% tax. On my side I don't want my ex or future ex's to know about it. I'm also amazing at spending money - so want it invested away from where both myself and others can reach it.

100% ++ tax has been paid.

ETA - how does that link to a username - or were you just trying to be with the 'in' crowd??
