Distributor Problem
Discussion
My 1996 Griffith 500 refused to start and the normal culprits namely: ignition coil, ignition amplifier, rotor arm and distributor cap were all checked and OK.
The wiring is also all correct.
There was a spark on the King lead but it was intermittent so the only thing not checked was the electronic pulse from the distributor produced by the sometimes wrongly called Hall effect device. It is simply a coil of wire around a magnetised ferrite core, a rotating steel wheel with 8 pips causes a pulse each time a pip passes the coil. This trigger wheel is apparently called a reluctor and mine was very rusty it appeared to be rusted onto the distrributor shaft so I decided to take the distributor apart to clean it. While dismantling I noticed a few problems: The plastic spark guard was broken, the bob weights springs were hanging loose and not connected to provide advance and one of the lobes was blue indicating excessive heat It is possible that HT has tracked via the broken spark guard to underneath, Has anyone else come across this ?

No doubt some bright spark will have the answer, thanks in advance!
