Can't comment on the 40mm but I tried this 36mm on recently, perfect for me...

I have decided this will be my next purchase though...

I'd wanted a Day-date for a long time, tried both the 40mm and 36mm and went for the 36mm in RG with chocolate dial, I think sports watches are fine in 40mm but 'smarter' watches should be smaller.

I wanted to wear it mainly as a dress watch so it had to sit under a shirt cuff which the 40mm didn't comfortably plus on my slim wrists it wears too big, I didn't see any of the bracelet just the face and lugs.

I suppose if you want to make a statement or have big wrists then 40mm is the way to go, I just found it too big on me.

Nice decision to have to make.

I've got a 36mm datejust (well it's really my wives) with a balck face and WG fluted bezel and it wears a touch small on me. I did try on a 36 YG day-date recenlty and it did feel a better size even though technically the bezels are the same diameter. I do quote like the 40mm also but it's defo a more flashy watch.

A lovely watch.
Whilst I like the idea of a classic 36mm version, the reality in my opinion is that the dial is too small to carry off what is quite a busy space - batons/numerals, hands, date, cyclops and of course the day window. The 40mm is much better proportioned for this.
My preference is to go white gold over yellow or rose, due mainly to the added wearability of a less extrovert colour.
I have my eye on this one.

Having said that, the rose gold over brown is lovely too.

Most of my watches are 40mm or larger but I do love my 36mm DD as I think it is the classic size and it just works.

I had a 36 gold dial for years. Loved it. If I was in the market I’d probably still get another 36. It’s just a classic watch.

For me I go with the 36mm as it's a classic size. The 40mm is passable unlike the DJ41mm where the bezels just look oversized for the watch.

Picked it up in 1993 when the 40mm and polished case lugs were but a dream, so I guess it's a keeper.

I took my wife to Rolex Bluewater a few weeks ago and asked to look at a Daydate for her, the lady who dealt with us was just so nice, i asked if she could put some figures together for me and email them to me and I've yet to receive that email. I am annoyed about that as I'd like to buy my wife a nice watch but I can't stand the BS that goes with it, oh you'll have to wait 4-5 years to buy that watch brand new etc.

What figures were you expecting her to put together? It’s a watch with a price.

I have the 36mm in yellow gold. It's such a great watch, especially in the latest iteration with the quick set day and date and the bracelet. I just wanted the classic president so I swerved the 40mm. I had one in the past with the champagne dial which looks nice but it's a bugger to tell the time with the gold hands, which kind of defeats the object so i have the white dial with baton markers, the roman numerals are a bit clunky on the busy face. It's cool in the WG as it's a bit under the radar, but on the rare occasions I wear it I am usually in the mood for showing off

The DD is the ultimate Rolex and maybe even watch for the ages. They don't call it the presidential for no reason smile It is my grail watch and hope to be able to fork out the massive outlay needed to own this watch one day!

Do the wives take it in turns to wear of does your favourite wife get to wear it most often?
