Bands and acts that broke through later in life
Discussion
A mate of mine is a half decent songwriter and has had a bit of success writing for others in some very specific genres. However, he's taken it upon himself to launch himself as a singer in his own right. He's got a good voice and style.... but is 62!
Now, I'm not being ageist here, and good on him for giving it a go but I'm struggling to think of anyone who's properly broken through over the age of 40.
(Susan Boyle doesn't count)!
I seem to recall The Darkness attaining fame in their late 30s.
Can you think of anyone?

seasick steve was who i was thinking of as i clicked the thread.
leonard cohen was 33 when he released his first album.
sharon jones [& the dap kings] must have been over 40. maybe not mega well known enough to qualify but the dap kings / mark ronson were responsible for the sound behind amy winehouse's success.
