Large number of jobs going and I'm sure it'll be more with the supply chain that will support the plant. Another blow to manufacturing in the UK

It was always going to happen, it’s also going to get worse with EV’s, both in terms of parts and fixing them. They will probably sold by some AI bot too so less people needed.

If you charge someone £15k when they sell something they will stop selling them. If they don't need to sell them they don't need to make them. If they don't need to make them they don't need factories. No factories, no employees.

The govts, current and previous, asked for this. Hope we don't see any crocodile tears now.

Will be tough for the people that work there, and it was signposted last year:

Fears for Vauxhall Luton van plant's future due to Brexit

"The long term future of a major vehicle plant and 1,500 jobs could be put in jeopardy if part of the Brexit treaty is not renegotiated, its plant director has warned."

Nowt to do with Brexit…. If it was then production wouldn’t be being moved to another UK location.
This has more to do with Stellantis grappling with low demand for the product

I see Badenoch embarrassed herself at PMQs when discussing this -

It's almost as though the Conservatives aren't taking any responsibility for anything they did in the last 14 years..

Interesting article in the Guardian about this - https://www.theguardian.com/business/2024/nov/27/v...

Points out that Stellantis' CFO had said only 2 months ago that the UK operation was on target to make a profit from British sales and meet ZEV targets. It also mentions that almost all the vehicles built in the Luton plant are exported, so any UK regulations wouldn't affect them anyway.
