Recently saw a Polaris buggy blasting round some woods in Poland and thought it looked great fun.

Out there they have a lot more freedom to use the land than we do here, so it’s a much better experience to own one, however, where in the UK can you use them?

Are they a bit like all things noisy and smelly, gradually being more and more difficult to enjoy due to not being permitted to use anywhere?

I think it's difficult to find a buggy that really works in the UK environment. The French have a UK importer for Secma but they don't seem to sell many vehicles, either QPOD or F16. At the other end of the scale the Ariel Nomad is an astounding thing. In all cases they look expensive for the amount of vehicle you actually get.

Are quad-bikes still a thing or have all owners gone the full Ozzy Osbourne...
"the 55-year-old legend embarked on what he thought was going to be a casual joyride across the grounds of his lavish estate. Unfortunately, Osbourne soon found himself in a London hospital undergoing emergency surgery to address “a broken collarbone, eight fractured ribs that were pinching crucial blood vessels and a damaged vertebrae in his neck.”

There will be places but you'd be far better off getting a road legal one and finding green lanes.

Off-road buggies are fun, but legal places in the UK are limited. Green lanes work if it's road-legal, or try off-road parks like Walters Arena or Kirton Off Road Centre. Checking local rules is key before riding!

I've got around a fair bit in my Nomad. You need to think of one of those more like a gravel spec rally car with no bodywork rather than an out and out SXS / off road buggy. You can use a Nomad anywhere, they are great on road and track and adequate doing proper off road stuff like green laning or mud plugging.
A proper SXS will blow a Nomad away properly off road, they are so much better designed and built for it and are better for general recreation. They just are not as good as a drivers thing.

Usage wise as said get a road registered one and you can tour about finding green lanes, if local, while away days exploring Salisbury Plain where you can have a lot of fun when the military police are not looking. There are a few race series you can enter the SXS in now if you are that serious about it. Pay and play off road sites would be fun, some motocross tracks will let you rent them and then there are various rally places you can rent if you want to get some more speed up. With the Nomads we have had days at Walters Arena, Sweetlamb and a couple of the owners have a bit of land and have made tracks of their own.
I'm forever contemplating getting something like Polaris RZR or Can Am Maverick.
