recently I drove a c63 w204, the legend. for me it was a first.

I would like to point out that there was no engine light or anything else on the dashboard.

the positive points: the sound of the exhaust was incredible, there were mufflers and the modified catalyst and it sounded incredible. Then I was surprised by the nice steering feel and intuitive driving position.
then the engine, a superb response from the accelerator at all speeds and smooth and lots of torque everywhere especially after 4000/5000rpm where it really pulls, nice.
the brakes are good too and the heavy car is well protected.
the gearbox is incredibly slow in C and S but smooth for relaxed driving but I appreciated the connection of the manual mode, certainly slow, allowing you to really choose the desired gear ratio.

overall it's a very good car but, because there is one.
the c63 is renowned for being a monster of torque and power and of course it feels faster than an m3 v8 or an rs4 but despite everything I find that it doesn't give much "push" into the seat, obviously more in passenger but as a driver seat this is not shocking just keep gooing. and above all it seems much slower than the numbers on the speedo. Am I the only one who experienced this? maybe I expected too much

I drove a c63s - the 4 litre version - and the torque shove in the kidneys was stronger than anything else I’ve driven until a mate took me out in his Porsche Taycan.

Back in 2007 these where brilliant from my experience.

My father collected a C350 and C63 W204 Saloon at the same time, one was to be used as his commuter the other his fun (and fits the grand kids) he had more trouble with the C350 at first (warranty well used) than the C63. Back in 2007 though, that C63 was something else, just hearing it rumbling up my drive when he came to visit was special. After a couple of years with it it was replaced with a Jag XFR again an amazing car but not a patch or an event as the C63. After all that, my dad still has the C350, it still has very little mileage for its age (77k) but besides a rear subframe out of warranty, it turned into a good car and still turns into a nice event for him to collect his papers with that V6 come the weekend.

I tried a C63s avant (2015) before buying my B8 RS4, and the later model C63 wasn't a patch on the model before to me, but I still preferred the RS4, whilst not in noise or driving dynamics it was a much easier car to live with and cart life about in!

Brilliant cars. One of those cars where the flaws make the character.

You won't get that diesel punch because there's no turbo. It means it has that old school feel as you run high rpm and it's also why it sounds so good.

yes the sound is incredible and the car accelerates really hard. I've had and driven a less powerful turbo car that seemed more punchy. the throttle response is very pleasant on the c63. different pleasures but even if I knew very well that there is no turbo etc, it was not the monster that was described to me, the power is strong but at the same time very refined and super progressive

A C63 is a legend?
You need better legends.

Anybody who wants greater shove from a W204 C63 needs to head down to DMS and get the tuning sorted for more shove.

Or just buy something with the M177 engine and get all the shove you need…

yes, on that I can't contradict you, objectively speaking, the c63 has the best engine I've known. sound, response and torque everywhere. but being used to the turbo these days if it makes me (strange) the car pulls on your arms, you even feel it in the head like fairground rides. but not really pushed in the seat feeling. it pushes you back at first when you put your foot down with this throttle response and after that it's very smooth all the rev range

Extremely linear. They don't have the NA crescendo of other petrol motors so do not feel particularly exciting. Very rapid though.

I think a manual 'box would have been a better pairing for that engine.
