Cat flaps

Has anyone got advice on fitting a cat flap to a glass door? I've just been quoted 900 quid to prepare and fit a cat flap to the door below - not including the cat flap itself!

I'd be replacing the door. Cutting a hole in glass isn't the best idea.

Keep an eye on second hand sites selling doors. I got a 2nd hand composite door with frame that was from a new build, the guys wife didn't like it. Suited me for new garage access door. £80. Absolute bargain and much easier to cut a hole in should you need to.

Good shout. The quote is to replace the door with toughened glass.

I recently paid £120 to have a double glazed half height pane cut to size with a sealed hole for £120. Transparent cat flap was £50 delivered - https://superiorpetdoors.co.uk/product/g-iddc-inte... Technically that’s a small dog flap but our calico is a 6kg unit!

Glazer fitted the window pane and the cat flap to make sure all fitted and sealed. Proper job.

Thanks for the replies, seems a bit more research needed. Unfortunately a tunnel isn't an option due to the interior layout.

It's an easy job.

Measure the glass length & width starting from, and ending to the beads, then take 5mm a side off to allow room. Also thickness which i'd expect to be 24mm (2x 4mm glass and a 16mm spacer).

You can then order a replacement unit with a hole in from any retailer. I used glasstops.co.uk and cost about £180.

Fitting is easy (better with 2 people) took about 15 minutes, and I'm not in the trade or anything. Watch some videos, shows how simple it really is.

Cat flap was about £15 from Amazon.

Ah, got you. Yes I suspect you're right, one of the downsides of living in West London is everything has an "On Thames" tax!

Did you know the guy who invented cat's eyes only did so because he saw a cat coming toward him and he was holding a torch ?

Apparently had the cat been walking away from him he would have invented the pencil sharpener
