Tickets (for coach packages) go on sale tonight, the main sale is 9am on Sunday.

Which PHers are trying for tickets?

New for this year is the SeeTickets queueing system!

After the debacle of the Oasis one a few months ago I am not hopeful of this going well, although dynamic pricing will not be in play.

Good luck to all of those trying for a ticket.

We had about 50 people trying for 5 x groups of 6 people.

Three people got a buying window, so three of those groups got tickets, two didn’t, including mine.

We had people spinning up all sorts of virtual servers and lots of clever tech but the three people who got in were two people on regular home broadband connections and one on his laptop tethered to his phone using 4G.

In short it seemed like the ‘randomly allocated to a place in the queue’ logic worked, which seems altogether fairer.

We’ve always succeeded with multiple devices and spreadsheets in previous years. Just been organised. But for the coach sale just today, nothing. Feels like the run of the last 15 years is over with it being much more random.

I would have said this will bring in a ton of new people and in some ways it’ll dilute the nature of the event but IMO that happened after Covid anyway the magic was gone, instead of people in outrageous outfits and makeup it was addidas T-shirts and bucket hats crew.

Only fair that others get to have a go I say. Luckily I’m sorted anyways as I’m performing same as this year but will be a shame not to have most of my friends there but that’s how it goes I guess.

I managed to get a ticket in the general sale on Sunday.

As with the Thursday coach sale I just sat on two bars of the progress line on multiple devices on both home broadband and 5G mobile and just did not venture up the queue.

However I am part of a syndicate with a lot of friends and friends of friends which is 68 wannabe attenders, including some very tech savvy people.

We ended up getting 11 buying windows of 6 across that group so 66 out of our 68 are going. For the third year running a random stranger I have not actually met paid my £75 deposit. I reimbused him on confirmation of the booking 45 mins later.

I'd like to say we have some sort of 'special process' but we don't. The techies in web dev analysed as far as they could what was going on but it does (as advertised) seem to be a waiting room type scenario where everyone in that waiting room is given a token, the priority of which in the queue is predetermined. Once the queue goes lives, the tokens are ranked by priority and if you are towards the front of the queue you get in, at the the back you don't. Much as SeeTickets have been maligned over the years I do think it is as fair as they can make it. effectively a big electronic ballot.

We simply got lucky because we threw numbers at it - we had over 100 people all around the world trying, we only needed 11 of them to get a lucky ticket place in the queue and we were sorted.

Over 100 people around the world trying?

Seriously, this is the problem, right here

If you're not gonna attend you shouldn't be able to buy tickets

Lucky enough to live in Glastonbury so got my tickets through the local sale. It was back to the old refresh like crazy process and it felt strangely comfortable

Anyone going for accommodation/campervan sale tomorrow should probably expect the refresh as well

How do we feel about Rod?

I wholeheartedly agree, it's the system that's led us to this place.

When I first started going I bought a ticket a week beforehand. It didn't actually sell out until the day before the festival (2008).

I'm firmly of the belief that the launch of Instagram in 2010 changed things massively. There are a lot of people there now who see it as a box-ticking exercise in showing how much they are 'living their best life' and all that bks. If you had to queue up in the rain outside HMV for a few hours like back in the old days it would probably cut the wheat from the chaff in terms of who actually wants to go.

I think Rod will be great in the Legends slot, if viewed from home on TV.

Actually there at the Pyramid: it will be massively far too busy unless they put someone huge up against him on the Other Stage.

In the last two years I think there have been huge crowds for Elton John (Pyramid) and Avril Lavigne (Other) which have been really unpleasant to be part of - just getting there is an issue, unless you sacrifice a couple of hours beforehand. I'll have my 10yo lad with me so will take a view on the day. We ended up taking a football up to the Stone Circle and having a kickabout on the grass below that when Avril was on, we could hear a bit of her but it was the only way out of a massive crowd crush for that particular hour.

I'm giving Glastonbury one last try before the fallow year to see if it's got the old magic for me. There are soooo many people at certain stages these days it rather spoils it, I just don't think they've got the mix right to balance the big acts out for the last few years,

Yep, my first was buy them from your local record store by queueing. Felt like it's got a lot harder YoY since 2013 onwards. Apart from 2016, that run from 2013 - 2017 was decent weather, I think pissing rain puts people off a bit for while.

Need some wet ones. Terrible weather just isn't instagrammable.

Looks like I'm stuck on 13 for a while

Last time we saw Rod was at Hyde Park with special guest Stevie Nicks back in 2011 and he put on a great show for over 2 hours and must have been in his mid 60s then, shame that they had to pull the plug at 10pm. He says retirement is for the middle classes and will be 80 years of age for the Glastonbury gig and hopefully not his last one.

'He wears it well a little old fashioned but that's all right' music

I managed to get swept up in the sea of people moving from Shania to Avril and ended up in a really good spot and not too crushed - complete fluke!

Most interesting crowd time I had was standing near the sound booth before Justice - the number of people throwing themselves into the mix once Nia Archives finished was ridiculous but once it settled it was absolutely fine and we had an incredible time.

I'd love to sit in as an observer on some of the meetings for planning who is playing where and when, with regard to crowd dynamics. Who is going to get the most numbers? It's essentially a big guessing game, most of the time they get it right, but sometimes not so. SZA for example was a tiny Pyramid crowd this year.

West Holts is an interesting one, it never seems to get sardine-like packed down there, you can always find a way in/out even for big acts. They seem to get the balance just about right there. Had a great time seeing Kool & The Gang there in 2011, I don't even like flippin' Kool & The Gang, I'm die hard indie, but they were just brilliant!

Neil Young to headline, yes!!

He was out yesterday, but in today.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cgrwvgj0149o

I guess the disagreement is over broadcast rights. Last time I saw him there in 2009 I think they only showed a bit of it on the Beeb.
Presumably old Shakey wants a similar deal this time?

He was brilliant last time, I guess this will be the last time he will ever headline it, I'm hugely excited for it.

I would have been happier if he'd not been there, might have got someone decent to headline the Pyramid stage instead. There will be other people to see instead of that moany old whinge bag!
