Jersey..good or what?
Discussion
In a weak moment I bought 2 seats to Jersey from the newly opened Doncaster airport next month.
My wife was going through one of 'I hate flying' periods but came around when someone told her it was most excellent for duty free shoppping and had fantastic restaurants . I am not so sure this is the case and fear that I may have to be like Face in the A Team trying to get her back on the plane if she hasn't been able to shop and eat to her complete satisfaction
Question is, do I pack the Ketamine?

Garden Restaurant at Jersey Pottery well recommended, but wrap up warm if the day is a bit chilly.
Little known is that the food on the tourist cafe at the Pottery is just the same but self service.
Yes the airport is closed due to weather problems more than any other UK airport.
Jersey is considering introducing a sales tax, bit like VAT in order to balance the books. Wonder if the chancellor is a relly of Gordon B??
If you can persuade a member to take you into the Yacht club for a meal then the Fish and chips is one of the best tasted in a long time. Cod like it used to be, crispy batter, hanging off both ends of the plate, chips like mama used to make.
Damn now I got to go to the canteen.
Wrong time of year but my fave beach is on the North coast @ Greve de Lecq.
And of course Bouley bay hillclimb course......

Shopping isn't as cheap as it used to be, some shops include the equivalent of VAT as a "shipping charge" so be careful.
Food is generally very good, lots of competition so the standards are fairly high (that said avoid City and Chicago Rock like the plague).
What type of restaurants are you after and I'll see if I can recomend something.
Where abouts are you staying? (public transport isn't the best and taxi's are a blatant rip off)

We went to Jersey for a car rally (yes I know it's only 12 miles across!) it was more a pub crawl /noshing session than rally.
There is a very good Italian just around the corner from the Grand Hotel on the sea front also there is a very trendy wine bar / nosh shop up the other end of the front but for the life of me I cannot remember the name......I should as it cost me £250 for dinner after the charged my credit card twice! (Got half back but even so £125 for dinner for 2!)

Projections estimate that this will be around 5%, so less than the UK.
However, as far as costs go, petrol, fags and luxuries (historically much much cheaper than the mainland) are now all pretty much the same cost as the UK. In fact, recent newspaper headlines said Jersey had dearer fuel than in the UK! Get your duty frees on the aircraft!
That said, you cannot beat Jersey for the breadth of scenery in one small place. Make sure that you go to the North coast - if you like quaint little snackeries with ideallic views try the Bonne Nuit Bay Beach Cafe, the Black Dog at Bouley Bay.
On the West Coast at St Ouens, Big Verns can be good on a nice day - 5 miles of golden sand.
St Aubins (south west) has plenty of restaurants to choose from (try the Salty Dog or Blue Fish) and a lovely little harbour, whilst Gorey Harbour (the east) also has a good choice (try Maxey's / The Beach House / Castle Green / Potteries / Sumas (the latter is great for breakfast on the balcony on a Saturday - but booking is necessary).
The "posh" place mentioned by vetteheadracer is called The Club & Spa / Bohemia. Its in St Helier and well worth a visit if you're feeling flush. Likewise Ocean at the Atlantic Hotel in the West, or Longueville Manor if you're after that type of thing.
Also "Zanzibar" in St Brelades Bay has great views from the balcony.

Seconded for The Salty Dog, great scallops! I have just got back from Guernsey after going to Jersey last year - Guernsey much smaller and prettier but houses everywhere. The petrol was good though at 62ppl!! Jersey is bigger, more open spaces, truly great scenery(Portolet in the south was loverly) but overall a bit busier - don't be suprised to find a rush hour into St Hellier. Both Islands are really good just different and congrats to the guy hill-climbing his Wedge in early Sept, you got a big cheer from me!
