I've moved house and my previous surround sound setup probably isn't going to fit the room, so I think I need a soundbar.
A mate has a soundbar for a different TV but you have to go into the tv menu each time and select it which is a pain, doesn't memorise the settings.

What make of soundbar would be plug and play with my tv, the LG soundbars don't seem particularly well reviewed and maybe they would be too new for my tv anyway?

My tv:

LG OLED55B7V 55 inch Premium 4K Ultra HD HDR Smart OLED TV (2017 Model)

Cheers

Your TV has an arc HDMI port so I'd say any newish soundbar with eARC or ARC would work fine.

I have a similar model TV mated to this

https://www.samsung.com/uk/audio-devices/soundbar/...

Literally plug and play, great sound, would recommend.

Cheers but think that's going to be a bit too spendy, will investigate the ARC output thing

My telly is a 2018 LG. I use a new JBL Bar 300 with it using the eARC cable. I love it. They're £250 at the moment

@peterpetrole I have the exact same TV as you. I just got the Samsung Q930D Soundbar. It’s excellent.

Just set mine up, very impressive indeed. Now Samsung has finally got around to approving my promotion claim it'll be surprisingly good value too.

Just occurred to me - now the Samsung is here I'm going to unload my Yamaha 'bar & sub, which would very much suit your requirements. If of any interest, let me know. (And excuse the unsolicited ad! biggrin)

Thanks for the offer - but I've just hit an even more fundamental snag in that my nice LG OLED doesn't actually fit in the alcove in the room where I wanted it to go. So I'm a bit stuck. Grrrrrr.

Just to update - now got the TV mounted rather unusually behind the door of the lounge (suits me) and ordered the Samsung Q600C off Amazon. The seller replied it was obsolete and supplied the Q700D instead for £250.

Think it might be grey market sourced as it didn't come with an English manual, and the included HDMI cable (supposedly ARC) didn't do anything.

So I splashed £5 on an optical cable and now it all works perfectly turning on with the TV.

I also 3D printed a bracket to hang it under the TV so pretty happy, it's got some serious oomph.

How did you wire it via HDMI? Try again using this..............

https://www.samsung.com/us/support/answer/ANS00049...

scroll down to..............."Connect your soundbar with HDMI ARC" You will get better audio with HDMI (Atmos etc wont play through optical). Your supplied cable should be HDMI 2.1 version too.

Thanks, will try again, I used the supplied cable (which I'm assuming is 2.1 but it doesn't have a label) between the soundbar and the TV HDMI ARC in, nothing happened, tv couldn't connect to it:

Follow the guide including the settings that need to be changed on the soundbar - can be a pain to see as the info screen on the soundbar is way to small !
