specialist in the southeast
Discussion
I have also removed myself from dealer servicing, and agreed indy cost close to 50% less, technically I don't think we really need specialists as it's all very straightforward. Advantage is specialists are usually a bit more 'enthusiastic' and interested in the car. I had an issue with the local indy not wanting to do the gearbox oil, even though I explained it was a simple job, they let me down and didn't do it so I'll now have to do somewhere else (or myself).

I’ve used Mike at Rentech in Portsmouth. Really nice guy and was practically half the cost of main dealer.
Just booked my 4 year service with Mike - seems like a really good find - thanks for the heads up!(PS he can't reset the service light on later cars including my 2020 car - but the quote is £430 all in including gearbox oil, so I can live with that!)

Glad I could help. I had same issue with service light but the manual suggests you should be able to do this yourself however it doesn’t work on mine. My local dealer (Orpington) said they’ll resolve this when I can be bothered to take it to them. In the meantime it’s nbd to me.(PS he can't reset the service light on later cars including my 2020 car - but the quote is £430 all in including gearbox oil, so I can live with that!)

It’s a bit odd that they can’t reset it for you as it appears to be quite simple?(PS he can't reset the service light on later cars including my 2020 car - but the quote is £430 all in including gearbox oil, so I can live with that!)
Yeah - on older cars (and I guess Renaults) it can be reset via the CAN - I guess he's not aware of this method...
"later ones have CAN Security so unable to reset service light."
"Have just checked on my software and via the reg number it's Diag tool only. So I will be unable to reset the light."
I will let him know...

Think i'm going to have to get the basic service done at orpington at their Porsche rates and then get the other stuff done elsewhere. at least i'll get the dealer stamp!
It's a tough call to make. Personally if I'm buying a car, I tend to trust the stamp of a small specialist whose livelihood depends on providing good service and building a lasting relationship vs a main dealer where you never even see the person working on your vehicle. I understand not everyone will feel the same though.Gassing Station | Alpine | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
