I have an immaculate, totally standard 07, 3.6 TDV8 with 97K on the clock and mechanically seems perfect.

I have been toying with the idea of a stage 1remap. The added power and especially torque sounds attractive for a very sensible price, (275.00).

Questions. Has anyone experienced any downsides to remapping this great engine? Has anyone used Precision Remapping in the Redhill area? They are quoting an increase of 38 bhp and 110 ft lb of torque.

FWIW - I've never been a fan of remaps, so I'd be questioning "Why?"... It's a 2.5t car, it's not built for performance (despite the name) and the torque from the TDV8 is nice out of the box.

...but it's your car, so you do whatever you want. smile

As for issues, the only one I've heard about with remapping the TDV8 are warped exhaust manifolds... Which would be a body-off job for access.

I should really keep a sensible head on. It really is surprisingly quick as standard and handles way beyond what it should do!

This is PH so we all like speed. I am lucky enough to have 2 Boxsters, (1 being my track day car) so should leave it as it is for longevity...There is always this little voice inside though wink

If you are going to remap it.
Get a company like BAS or Alive to do it.
They know land rovers and do excellent maps.

I had a BAS map on my D3 and it made a lovely difference to how it drove.
They don’t do one for my Eu6 spec D4 so I’m getting an Alive map for it.

I'm aware of your TVR escapades etc. so know that you aren't inexperienced when it comes to 'powerrrrr', BUT, if it was me (which it isn't wink) I'd be thinking twice about remapping a 100,000 mile engine and drivetrain. No scientific evidence for my views though: what's the torque limit for the gearbox, which would probably be my biggest concern?

smile those were the days, very happy days. Now turned to Porsche’s.

I have looked into the gearbox issue
and they rate it as 600 ft lbs.
Standard TDV8 is 640 ft lbs.
Stage 1 allegedly 750 ft lbs.

Hmm…

Not to concerned about the mechanics as it was a one owner, full LR history and drives as smooth as silk.

Compared to my old 4.6 P38 it is a rocket ship. The sensible guy would leave it alone.

Gratuitous photo.

PM me a piccy plus details please. May well be useful. Car only does a max of 4K a year and lives in a garage.

Most of the mileage is winter miles leaving the summer for the Boxster.

If the cars well maintained then a good map shouldn’t be an issue.

I had my D3 remapped at 154,*** miles. It died at 203,936 miles due to rust. The engine is going in another D3 to live on.

The gearbox is potentially the weaker link, make sure it’s had the oil changed in it, if not hasn’t I would get that done first.
