I think that is something that everyone can agree on and Sunak has hit the proverbial nail on the proverbial head.

Can anyone name a better place on Earth than Yorkshire?

Norway, the Tyrol and Bavaria immediately spring to mind.

As a Yorkshire man I'm more concerned by his statement that he was adopted by us.

I mean it's a nice county with some lovely places but you'd have to be deluded beyond basic Yorkshire pride to not see room for a lot of improvements.

Bradford, Sheffield, Leeds, Rotherham, Leeds, Doncaster, Barnsley... I guess if taking one for the team and concentrating some of the sttest towns and cities in the UK together means it's the greatest place on Earth then fair enough wink

Some nice countryside though... smile

What's wrong with Leeds (as a modern city)?

You forgot the festering rathole that is Dewsbury.

It was a tongue in cheek comment, but fair enough Leeds is a lot nicer these days than it used to be smile

I think its a tie between Yorkshire and Liverpool for letting where you were born define your "personality".

It has some ok countryside, uninspiring weather, vast wealth inequality. There are many places that are nicer imo, I suspect Rishi will have left by Christmas....

Well, I bombed past him and his mahooosive body guard when I was on my bike coming down Black Hambleton on Sunday, himself out walking with his dog Luna up on the Yorkshire Moors.

He is my MP, and a regular (well he he is here once a month or so) in the village pub with his family / dog for dinner.

As it happens my SWMBO also was horse riding / jumping for a low key evening session at Yafforth Equestrian last night and his daughter was also riding / jumping.

He does get involved / local. I would believe his interests.

I think that's quite a good summary. I've always thought of it as a nice place to live if you can afford to live in a decent area. Or have the type of personality which can dominate the council estate.

There is a small café, up a hill nestled to the side of the ruined castle of St George on the island of Kephalonia, the Kastro café is perfectly situated to enjoy views out over the island and they serve wonderful food and drink and it is in my opinion the greatest place on Earth.

Its warm, peaceful, does good food and is next to a ruined castle on a Greek island. Sorry Yorkshire, id rather be there.

One of my Lancashire friends describes us Yorkshiremen as 'Scots with the generosity sucked out of them'

Also 'Tha can allus tell a Yorkshireman but tha can't tell 'im much'

I think the 'Yorkshire Personailty' is pretty fair description for a certain type of professional Yorkshireman

I live in North Yorks and it's nice. But yeah not particularly cheap.

I wouldn't live in any town around here, you're better off semi-rural/rural.

I live in the Nidderdale valley and it's relative bliss.

No traffic lights on most journeys until I reach the destination in a town/city. No plod. No speed cameras. Open roads. Views everywhere. Not many idiots. Can say hello to people and get hello back.
Many local shops are SMEs and offer great service/products and at good prices. My local petrol station come post office come village shop come builders merchant even sells super unleaded BS7800 for about 5p more than normal unleaded!
