Discussion
I recently sold my Polestar 2 and now want a fun daily to go alongside my weekend 991 and have always liked the previous shape 2 series.
I have had a recent test drive in a rather nice M240i which seemed perfect but then i saw a 2020 M2 at only £5k extra (approx £30k) and now am planning a test drive asap.
Is the extra worth it or would the M240i be ideal as i am no driving god but just want a quick fun daily.
Insurance for the M2 is a couple of hundred pound a year more (for now) but any advice greatly appreciated (test drive of course a priority)
Thanks

I’ve had an m235i and an OG M2
The 240 will be as quick as the M2 no doubt, but the M2 feels very different, much more proper chassis wise if you get me
Drive an M2 and you will know either way
Original post now withdrawn, but i would concur. The 240 will be as quick as the M2 no doubt, but the M2 feels very different, much more proper chassis wise if you get me

We'd an M140i and at the time i thought to myself "this is just like an M2" as its pretty much as quick in a straight line. THEN i took an extended drive in an M2.
Totally night and day. The M2 feels so much wider (as it is), more purposeful, feeds more back to you, handles a lot better, sounds so much better, looks so much better.

Night and day..
Might be too hardcore for me then

Its probably not any quicker in a straight line than a M240i on a dry road however its how it deals with the twisty bits and wet roads that sets it apart.
Many people use an M2 as a daily driver. I did for a long time. It did supermarket runs, runs to the shop for a pint of milk, commutes to the office, runs to the airport full of luggage, hospital runs with elderly parents, dump runs, etc. You just stick it in comfort mode and - if DCT - leave it in auto and its very relaxed.
I would suggest taking an extend test drive in both. If going auto the DCT is very different and takes a little bit of getting used to, hence dont accept just a "round the block" test drive.
Thanks..manual or auto is fine by me
This comp is for sale close by and the owner is someone my son knows so i think i will pop along and have a look.
Not my colour (blue is a must) but a closer look is worthwhile.

Nice looking car. As you say, you're going to have a look and a test drive, but that particular one -This comp is for sale close by and the owner is someone my son knows so i think i will pop along and have a look.

=> Feels pricey for 2018 car
=> Doesnt have the Comfort Pack
Conversely -
=> Its low miles with a full main dealer history
=> Its a manual which makes money money.
Comfort pack bundled electric memory seats, reverse camera, comfort access, wireless phone charging & hotspot, electric folding mirrors.
Plus pack was smoked alloys, heated seats, HK speakers, adaptive led headlights, sun protection glass.
The other main options were Big Brake Kit and electric glass sunroof. Both of these are quite rare.
Prices are usually miles and spec driven. Personally i'd want both packs if i was looking at a Comp.
The M240i has plenty of power already.
The main difference between it and the M2 is the chassis.
The benefit of the M240i is that you can spec the Birds Auto dynamics pack on it which will make it a better car to drive than an M2.
The M2 has very crashy suspension and coming from a Boxster myself, I could feel it hammering the bump stops on a bumpy road at pace.
