Audi V10 maintenance Edinburgh
Discussion
Hi all, as per my recent thread on the VAG forum, im currently tempted by an S8 V10.
Before I commit however, the very nessesary matter of running such a rare thing comes to mind. To that end, I was just wondering if any v10 audi or Lambo owners could recomend someone to look after the car for me?
Thanks everyone in advance!

I ran a C6 RS6 for eight years and used a local competent mechanic, to him it was "just a car" only time I needed to go to an Audi specialist was when special tools were required eg to reset DRC when some components needed replaced. I'm not aware of any specialists in Edinburgh but there are a couple of decent on the west coast and one near Falkirk
Never used them, however I don't think you need to go to a main dealer, not sure most of the techs would have experience on a D3, most of the Central belt are Lookers and none of them have a good rep on Audi groups, Perth Audi are often recommended though as they are not part of the same group, however the labour rates will be main dealer high I suspect. Join the FB group called Scottish Audi clan and there might be more experience of Edinburgh based there.

Evening all, thanks for the pointers everyone, there looks to be a few great options out there!
Apologies for the delay in replying, I may have had a slight bout of cold feet on the engine out servicing/repairs towards the end of last year and planned to go slightly more modern... however after a change of circumstance I may be back on the hunt for v10 goodness again this year.
I'll speak to a few of these specialists and see what they say. Both about how mad I'm being daily driving a v10 and if they can help make ownership as painless as possible.
Thanks again all!

Try not to get too hung up on the engine out thing, I had a couple of things done on my RS6 that Audi dealers would have taken the engine out for, if you have access to a competent machanic some of that can be done without taking the engine out, the classic example on mine was the oil pump seal, a 50p part but Audi wanted £4k in labour, my mechanic did it for £750 including replacing a piece of casting that was cracked.Apologies for the delay in replying, I may have had a slight bout of cold feet on the engine out servicing/repairs towards the end of last year and planned to go slightly more modern... however after a change of circumstance I may be back on the hunt for v10 goodness again this year.

That is exactly the sort of thing I need to hear! Just like with TVRs, all you hear online are horror stories, they don't help the confidence levels. Speaking to owners is where the best advice comes fromhttps://photos.app.goo.gl/mUoACL7meZHB65KL9
With that im mind, overall, how did you find ownership, would you recommend?
I love Q cars and to me the S8/S6/RS6 are the ultimate Q cars from modern era. Experiencing one in the flesh last year just made me want one more than ever.

The C6 has the 5ltr twin turbo while the S8 D3 has the 5.2 NA engine, the power delivery in the RS6 was impressive for such a big car, never known anything like it from 80mph upwards (private road of course
). It was a great all rounder family car, I never ran it as a daily/commuter as the fuel consumption would be a killer. Parts such as discs can be expensive on the RS and I'm not sure about the price and availabilty of D3 parts now. I just sold my D2 as parts were becoming very hard to get and expensive. I now have a D4 with the 4ltr V8 twin turbo which crops up in many VAG cars, and it is a superb car. If your budget can stretch to a D4 I can recommend it.
The D3 is more the budget I was thinking of, it leaves a fair bit to keep it on the road... although part avalibility is a valid concern. The fact its a V10 is a great attraction as well, I love the surge of unrelenting torque!
I have some experiance with D3 A8 though... my Father had one and it was a disaster. It was our only family car at the time though. Its a real head V heart V wallet decision
