Garage door paint
Discussion
Ok boring i know but I need to paint a couple of garage doors, any recomendations on what do use. Navy Blue colour
Did one with Smoothright a couple of years ago and it was a right pain in the bum and came out rubbish.
Can I just use a gloss paint or does it have to be a special external paint

I've just done mine with Hammerite Garage Door Paint.
I'm not sure whether it is any different from Smoothrite, but it went on fine and looks good.
Smoothright was really thick and difficult to get a good finish. will investigate
PatHeald what did you use to put it on
Their website says its ideal for use with foam, mini gloss roller
www.hammerite.com/uk/products/ps_garage_door_paint.html
Might give it a go this weekend if the weather holds
Thats not too far off the colour im after either

My doors have vertical grooves and a sponge or roller would have not done the job.
The colour on the tin is marginally darker than it appears on the door.
My doors are now a lovely shade of racing green. The colour on the tin was almost black....
I used Dulux Weathershield. It's easy coverage and suitable for metal (if you prime any bare metal areas first) Quick rub down and touch up with primer then one or two nice coats should last for a good 5 years.
Lots of colours including various shades of blue.
Do your door with the same to match properly.
One problem is that smoothrite and hammerite cannot be overpainted for approx 6 years if i remember correctly. The finish prevents other coating from bonding properly. Even another top coat of hammerite applied after a few days does not always bond correctly and is easy to flake off. Good Luck

Although my door may seem like wood its actually coloured PVC with a woodgrain effect. I sponge it down occationally but it will never needs paint.
The windows have been done since the picture and the weatherboards are next to be done in PVC. As I dont fancy doing them again, sanding and painting almost 2 floors up is not my idea of fun
