Most common Chimaera colors?

Hello all, American here.

In a year or two, I will be in the market for my first TVR, preferably a Chimaera, just because of how cheap they are compared to other TVRs. But I want to avoid the top 3 most common colors.

I own a C4 Corvette in Turquoise, and that color is the 4th most common color of that particular model year. So I'm trying to avoid the 3 most common colors.

Is there any info out there on colors, or local knowledge, or do I have to do my own research by browsing the listings?

I would say Blue is most common , then Red , and then lighter colours( Silver, Verde Green ) , probably then Yellow (in various flavours) .

Rarest ... ? .... Black ,Green, Gold ,White , flip colours. ( all IMHO)

Thanks, but what year did flip colour's come from the factory? Or were they always an option?

Most if not all flip colours will probably be resprays ...I think Tuscans were the first cars with colours like Spectraflair Silver and Reflex Charcoal , followed by the prismatic cascade Indigo and Purples.
I seem to remember there was a poll of owners about colours some years ago , but I may be dreaming .

I also think it depends if you're talking colour in general or specific paint ... for example my Chim is Deep Pacific Blue a Jaguar colour and I think the only one since the first owner spec'ed it.

I believe my 'Ocean Haze' was an original option. 94 car.
Quite rare I think.

Surely you can only choose colours based on what cars are still in existence and available and that’s around 1/4 of the total numbers produced.
Something like 5000 Chimeara were produced so your talking about a total pool of around 1500 cars even in existence let alone what are for sale.

As whatever car you import will be a very rare thing in the States surely you will be buying one that suits your tastes and if that happens to be blue,red,green or even silver that’s all that matters and will be one of very few that have made it across the pond.

The other thing to remember is customers could order cars with virtually any colour scheme so interiors could be different from one car to the next even if the body colour was the same.

So in answer to your question yes you’ll have to look through the classifieds to see what’s available to you as even then many of the best cars are in the hands of long time owners who are not selling which reduces your options further.

You’d be well advised to advertise what your preferred choices might be nearer the time your looking to buy and then maybe owners who currently don’t advertise their cars might come forward.
That might offer up more colour combinations and options to you.

The data on this site is a few years old I think but blue was by far the most popular colour (44%), albeit in lots of different shades from dark to light.

Red and Green 2nd and 3rd, more purple cars than grey or black!

I had a silver Chimaera myself a few yeas ago, it's extremely common in other makes but only 6% of Chimaeras.

- Brown
- Pink
- multicolour

So take your pick - which do you prefer?

Alternatively sod everyone else - which colour do you like best?- buy (or respray to) that..

Pink .. is probably faded Red and I won't comment on Brown

I purchased mine in 2009 and sold it last year. In all that time, attending many TVR Car Club meets , car shows, etc i saw very few solid red Chimaera.

I seen quite a few metallic red cars but really loved the solid red.

This is the same colour as mine. But I prefer the lighter purple

I always liked the Tvr purple and always associated it with the race teams and remembering back to the 1990’s and the purple logo on the race trucks etc which to me made the name stand out from the crowd as everything else was so much more corporate, reds and blues, black and white.

Blue is never a bad colour especially if it has a bit of silver in it.



Orange is now in vogue and I like it a lot if it’s on a car like this McLaren 720S

Yes, its actually a rover colour, amaranth. Also available on rover metro and 200 - as opposed to Rolex Blue which is stunning in almost any light

I though TVR Purple was Rolex Blue (I think there was Paradise Purple aswell :

Rover colour, didn’t look half as good on a Rover

Those trucks look spectacular in that colour which is testament to the colour more than any truck although I’d have been happy to drive those buggers.
