Did you tell your wife /partner ?

There is a common core to many sports car purchases along the lines of " I always wanted one" "I've waited 10 years for this car" ..........however I wonder how many people acted on calculated impulse when they bought their new toy. I don't mean, just saw your car and got your cheque book out, but realised you could afford it, did the homework, found the right car and bought it ... BUT did not tell your wife/ partner until after the event.

You may have guessed the reason I ask, as this is exactly what I did, just dropped it into the conversation a week later that I had bought a TVR.

Fortunately I have a very understanding wife !

So, did you tell before or after the cheque book came out ?

Actually, I think I went one better. Girlfriend & I had only moved in together 2 weeks when I mentioned that I was thinking of a TVR, always wanted one, been driving bangers for too long etc, etc.

So she suggests
(a) she'd sell her car
(b) I pass my car to her, she taxes, insures & maintains it, this becomes our day-to-day car, in which she drives me to & from pub
(c) I concentrate my funds on MY TVR

Top girl!

(Mind you, she's now making comments like "when are you putting me on the insurance for OUR TVR"!)

She new I had the S, and was pretty dead set against the Griff. I got the Griff whilst still having the S and sent her a pic of both of them together.

Made the mistake of going out and buying a car without telling the Mrs. In my defence I was buying it with Company money and the other Directors were with me at the time....I thought it was a Company thing! How wrong I was...

She really enjoys going along to see the new car and "help" in the decision. I've involved her in it ever since.

Only told her when I got home after buying it. She went livid!!!

Decided best form of defense was attack. Went on about how it was my money etc.

Obviously I apologised in the end. (sorry chaps I've gotta live with her)

She loves it now though!!!

My Mrs was keen for me to get the Integra, as she was embarrased to be seen in my Cinquecento Sporting.
Her car is a Fiat Ulysee MPV so she really enjoys getting behind the wheel of the 'Teg and she drives the pants off it too. Great stuff.

Hah ... know what you mean. The g/f is offering to "help" by taking the Chim to Mr Batty for its service next week. I'm scared coz David is an honest bloke. If she asks him how much I've spent on the car, he'll probably tell her. And that will be that. I'll never see my bollox again.

Nope. The wife knew I was curious, but she was gobsmacked when I spent £26k and came hone with one! Her face was a picture! She wasn't happy at the time, but she's come round to the idea since!

Gosh seems to be a common theme running through here. Personally no, as with most here, I did not tell my wife. We had discussed it and I thought she was pretty sure of my intention - when I told her a deposit was down she did go silent on me for a couple of day. To her credit it wasn't the idiocy of the purchase that pissed her off (did I mention she was 6 months pregnant at the time) it was that she didn't get to be involved in choosing it.

Now working on a move to Cerbera, she is not convinced so may just have to do the same again, think she really will have my "misters" this time though !!!!

Mine bought mine for me for a special birthday (well paid the deposit, the loan repayments were a shared pleasure) so I guess it was the other way round.

And she's an Arsenal fan as well.

What more could a man want?

Nope, the exact opposite actually, I was going to buy a used Griff but my wife convinced me to order for a brand new one! Good lady!
