Highly doubt it, I have a 2010 E93 and the warranty wouldn't cover a failed light level sensor as technically it "wasn't" part of the headlight. It wasn't a BMW warranty but I paid a decent amount for a comprehensive warranty

I have a 2012 e89 z4 on 51k miles and pay for BMW Extended Warranty with £100 excess, my question is that I have a rear light cluster that has a crack in the centre and I was hoping to have it replaced under the warranty.. I had the other one replaced when the car was about 2 years old under its original warranty with no problem so just wondering if the extended warranty will cover it ? I looked at the terms and cannot see light clusters excluded but wondered if anyone had real world experience of claiming for one ?

Thanks..
I’ve just been in a similar situation and you definitely will not be covered I’m afraid. The T&C’s state that anything not mentioned in the extended warranty handbook are not covered - and you won’t find any mention of lights in the handbook. I tried anyway and was turned down although I did manage to negotiate a discount on the work.

Mine wasn’t cracked but was a tail light where a seal had failed and let in water. I argued that this shouldn’t happen as it had not been damaged in any way but was still turned down. I’m certain the outcome will be the same for you unfortunately.

Could the crack have been caused by another car bumping into it(sold mry z43,5i so cant have a look) ot another car bumping into it high bumper?.
If not get a claim in if can only have resulted from degradation or whatever of plastic
Is it serviced by BMW or an indie- anything reported on last health check?
More likely to get a result if your a loyal customer but will have to push. If offer say half thay have already accepted that coud be part at fault just hum and ha a bit and ask for a bit more.
Should have definitely been able to get leaky seals done under insured warrnaty(mine were). They just getting tougher with claims and will always say no if they think you are a pushover

Whatever you do, DO NOT TRUST the dealer's on-site assessor. They'll do anything to get out of the claim. Instead, call the claim line directly and ask them before you take the car to the dealer, ensuring your conversation with the claim line is honest about the damaged/broken part. That'll give you leverage if the dealer has issues with your claim.

Second this. Within the space of a few months 2 warranty claims were declined by the dealer. Phoned the Warranty Co direct and both claims were subsequently honoured. The dealers response was that they deal with lots of warranty cos and can’t be expected to know every detail.
Unbelievable……
I would add that neither claim related to lights.

Thanks for the replys, ive rung BMW warranty and they advise there was a service solution issued for e89 lights cracking and he has given the number, so will use this as ammo in my potential claim at the Dealers..

Can you get the claims line to book it into the dealer for you? Might be easier than trying to book directly with dealer, though you have a claims number

Sometimes its worth finding and travelling to a dealer that is more helpful, a few years ago my local dealer refused a claim based on a failure due to corrosion, an indy took a look and spoke to a dealer they use, suggested I go to them and they honoured the warranty. I then started travelling an hour to that dealer as they honoured warranty and their service was superb, they would try to discount to match well known indy prices (e.g. Munich Legends) too.
I broke down not far from home a few months ago and the RAC would only tow me to the local dealer, they tried to wriggle out of a claim and I had to write to BMW Warranty and kick up a stink over the B/S they tried to give me on consequential damage before they agreed to honour the claim.
Needless to say I will never go near my local dealer again.
