Hi guys.

I'm getting old.

I don't think I can physically do my job for much longer, but I'm stuck what to do next.

First off, due to responsibilities ideally I need 6am-2pm.

I have no qualifications other than a few iffy GCSEs, but I have worked in many sectors.
I've been an orthopedic engineer, warehouse worker, shop floor worker, dispatch assistant manager, car valeter and postie.

Ideally Id like something indoors and less physical, but probably not office based.

What should I be looking at?

If your a postie on foot just now, can’t you get a change to driving the vans or small trucks that shift the mail between depots

I'd go for this... a friend in his early 50s got a place on a funded course. Sadly it didn't go ahead as there weren't enough applicants.

Personally I'd quite like it in a rural area.

Why not orthopedic engineer, warehouse worker, shop floor worker, or maybe even a dispatch assistant manager,?

Probably a minefield with HMRC, though.

They'd be all over him with claims of "inside IR35!" Unless he was astronauting for multiple clients.

Are you working as a Postie now? If not, what is your current job?

Could you get a transfer to something less physical?

The 6 - 2 thing does cramp the options.

A proper chat with your current employers might be the best bet.

The hours is going to be your sticking point as most places want sone flexibility.

Have a look at somewhere like euro car parts delivering parts to garages , similar to being a postie but less calls and potential to learn about the parts and move to a parts department indoor job.

Also look at stellantis group ( Peugeot, Vauxhall, Citroen,fiat,alfa) there drivers are dire , if they got a load of posties onboard delivering they'd be way better (although probably less pay but flip side is its mob-fri)

Bus or truck driver would be an easy move with your experience, the challenge will be the hours you're available, BUT there will be a small / medium company local to you that needs that availability

Doubtful they want delivery staff the jobs at the mail centers like a lot more dodgy with more centers getting earmarked for closure and if you get a transfer you can bet it'll be on worse terms and conditions than his current contact.

The OP doesn't make it clear what his current job is.

It might be postman, it might not.

delivery driver, taxi driver, security in office/industrial sites
