E91 - 330D - EGR test/diagnostic process

What’s the problem? Do you have an M57 or N57?
It is the N57.Please see my other comments, on the resurrected thread on swirl flaps, today.
Symptoms:
Running at motorway speeds with the cat temps only ever in the 200 - 300c range, apart from when giving it many beans. Significantly increased fuel consumption (in same operating circumstances). Around town speeds the cat temperature is off the bottom end of the scale (200c)
I am convinced the EGR valve is spending most of its time "open", probably due to coking up, which has resulted now in the inlet manifold being similarly impacted.
As I understand it, the standard Insta test checks for "full open" achievement, but I do not know whether the same test checks for full "closed" or whether temperature might be affecting the mechanical operation of the lever (for want of a better word).
I am coming to the conclusion that I will have to take off the plastic cover to check it for myself.

Is there a diagnostic test for EGR operation, which does not involve disassembly?
I believe the Insta test checks for valve opening, but does it also test for full closure of the valve?
The air mass test tests EGR actuation.I believe the Insta test checks for valve opening, but does it also test for full closure of the valve?
I'm not exactly sure about closure but it's fairly comprehensive.

Sorry. I’m afraid I’m more of an M57 expert. However the ISTA function tests are normally quite comprehensive. Please see my other comments, on the resurrected thread on swirl flaps, today.
