Funny you should mention the spare; I was checking the tyre pressures on mine last week and as I was topping up the space-saver (to 50psi) it occurred to me it's the original 1987 tyre... eek

Never had to use it in the 24 years I've owned the car (says he, touching wood with crossed fingers...)

I've used mine a few times due to sudden flats. They don't wear out (despite it saying only use once).
I couldn't get a 9J in the boot!

I have taken 2 wheels to the garage in the wedge to get new tyres.
It's a squeeze - passenger seat and parcel shelf, top must be down.

There was an incident a few years back, in Scotland as I recall, where a woman was killed by a car tyre that exploded as she held onto it in the passenger seat of a car en route to a garage.
I've often wondered why they didn't think to let the air out...

... probably because at garage prices, it's 50p worth of air!

Looks like I need new rear tyres, looking at Nankang Sportnex AS-2+.

Anyone tried these?

Yes but this particular compund has good reviews. I agree the older ones were dicey.
I suppose I shall fine out soon because a pair is going on!

In related news I spotted this:

You will need matching fronts of course.
