Hi all

Anyone got a ioniq5n , can give me some insight into every day daily driving ? This wil be our 1st ev , coming from various bmw 330d for the last 20 years , we only do 5k a year so thought the derv was a bit of a waste , and as im 3 years away from my big 50 which i had planned on buying a new m3 , and then 1 of my coworkers told me about salary sacrifice at work which i wasnt keen on and then showed me the tax savings , im fortunate to earn 120k a year where the most tax savings made the most sense, im not a fan of ev but i noticed the 5n was available 😀

Congrats sir. I was tempted by one on salary sacrifice but they are just so expensive via our scheme so I went and bought a used Taycan instead. Was following a 5N the other day and it looked mighty cool in the flesh, much better than in pics. It also was rapid and went round a couple of roundabouts every bit as fast as the Taycan.

Around £300pm more than a EV6 GT on ours.

You'd have to really want the 5N.

£770 on ours, higher rate.

With the extended lead times, by the time it arrives it will have been superseded by newer, better tech. Just doesn't stack up.

Congrats OP. We have the AWD 5 and love it. Toying with the idea of the 5N. Getting out of that tax region will make a big difference. A new car and a tax allowance, what’s not to like? smile

Looking forward to your feedback on it. What’s the ETA, and what colour did you go for? I prefer the dark greyEcotronic Grey Pearl but the wife likes the blue.

We went to showroom to have a look at the 5n as the misses wasnt convinced by the pics i showed her , they had a matt blue , ecotronic grey and abyss black , the car looks so much better in the flesh than on you tube and pics , we really likeed all the colours we see , matt blue looked amazing but a bit to much for my misses, i liked the ecotronic grey , the misses liked the black and talked me round as she will be driving it more than me , and to be honest the black looks alot more stealth as all extra bllack bits blend in

Its been confirmed just waiting for dealer to get back with a delivery date , its through tusker , effect on take home is 782 a month for 40% tax payer so mine will be less than that not sure exactly by how much will have to wait and see , now need to get a charger fitted , any recommendations?

Ohme and Octopus via one of their intelligent tarrifs.

3p a mile and more available charging than you'll need.

Similar numbers to those I was quoted, unfortunately id need 12500 miles which hikes the price up even more. £450 more than I pay for the X-Power although the 5N is in a different league clearly.

My workplace scheme is saying the gross amount is £1,217 but would cost me £675 net. This is over a 4 year lease (so ~£33k net over that time). Includes everything though.

I am 'fortunate' in that with this and full pension sacrifice I would still not get below the 125k tax-of-death region, but would obviously save me a lot of tax/NIC.

I don’t understand this salary sacrifice thing - if you can lease a car personally for £700 ish , what’s the point of ss @£1217 ?

In most instances, salary sacrifice schemes include insurance and maintainence, including tires, for the term of the contract.
That £1217 is gross, so pre income tax and national insurance. Some fortunate/unfortunate people are paying 40, 45, or even 60+ percent income tax.
To earn £700 take home to finance the personal lease you mention, someone in the 60% band would need to earn £1750 gross. Then add to this the insurance and maintenance.

So £400/ month for maint and insurance ?
Why isn’t the ss what you would pay as a company lease ?

The schemes are cunningly constructed to make them very slightly cheaper than leasing the car etc personally. The Salary Sacrifice companies are making out like bandits as they’re pocketing the tax that should be going to pay for schools, hospitals etc.

Grab it while you can. There are some leasing companies who will lease at “normal” rates with employers paying the bill - they work out far cheaper.

A lot of people on this thread are here to chase the deal, not the car.
I wanted a specific car and SS works out significantly cheaper than leasing or PCP. And when I say significantly, I mean no 10k deposit, no maintainence or insurance. And because of my tax situation, £300 per month less.
For SS, it really does pay to look at your own situation carefully rather than listening to others that are likely to be in a different situation.
