Hi everyone,

I am new here. I’m in the market for a second hand A110 and have found one which has all my specs, except the sports exhaust.

Is it possible to retrofit an exhaust or, failing that, just the sound pipe?

I’ve seen lots of threads suggesting a new exhaust is possible, but no-one saying they have done it. Also I’m unclear whether you can just retrofit the sound pipe.

Any help much appreciated!

Thanks

I did see a post from Life110 saying that the bits for the sound pipe could be bought separately for (I think) £800 and something. Fitting the bits looks easy, but I'm not aware if any ECU reprogramming is needed. You'll find lots of differing opinions about the merits of the sound pipe and/or sports exhaust. Personally (having a PE with both) the sound pipe without the sports exhaust would be my choice. Plenty of others would take a different view so you really need to listen to a car with the sports exhaust to make up your mind.

The valve for the sports exhaust is electronically operated, so I don't think it can be retrofitted easily.

As mentioned you can retrofit the sound pipe easily, it's just a few jubilee clips and a couple of nuts for the resonator to fit to the firewall.

My car has the sports exhaust but for some reason not the sound tube, so ordered for parts from Alpine for around £450 and fitted it myself. It’s quite straightforward once you work out how the retaining clips work, you also need to remove the fixing bolts for the Intercooler to give the movement required to slip the tubes off, plus swap over the air flow sensor.

It’s makes it big difference in the induction sound you hear as it literally being piped in from the throttle body, you get a lovely bark when you open the throttle. The exhaust is quiet even with the valve open, blame the GPF for the that.

Search for Intercooler pipes on eBay and you’ll find a sound tube for sale. It’s a different colour to mine, I got the dealer to match the required parts to the VIN number of a car that’s same age as mine to be sure that it fitted

Thanks everyone for your help. In the end, I’ve decided to hold out for one with the exhaust.

This week I received the following notification from Alpine that you can source an Akrapovic exhaust via your local Alpine dealer. Did anyone else receive this update? Curious as to why it appears to be limited to "S" models only - why would that be? I don't recall the "S" having a different exhaust to the Pure / Legende / GT models. Perhaps the inference is the "S" model has the OEM Sports exhaust as standard and not optional as on the other models. But still, I wouldn't have thought there would be a fundamental difference. And why not offer the Akrapovic exhaust on the "R" model ?

EQUIP YOUR A110 S WITH THE AKRAPOVIC EXHAUST SYSTEM. DESIGNED BY THE WORLD LEADER OF HIGH-PERFORMANCE EXHAUST SYSTEMS. ENJOY A UNIQUE SPORTY SOUND AND EXPERIENCE THE POWER OF TITANIUM WHICH REDUCES THE TOTAL WEIGHT OF YOUR ALPINE BY 4KG.

I think as you say, the Akrapovic is marketed towards the the S as it has the sports exhaust (wired/valved system) as standard, also S drivers are a more likely customer to go for a louder exhaust system.

There are two Akrapovic exhausts, one for cars equipped with the wired/valved sports exhaust and one for the R. They both have dual exits but different styling. As I understand it the R system isn't valved.

I'd love the Akrapovic but if I had a spare £4k it would surely be going to pay off the car itself. I'll play the Euromillions on Friday, fingers crossed.

Thanks 7EN for your reply and update, appreciated.

I'll discuss with my dealer at the next service, to hear what their experience is of the Akrapovic, if any. I would only consider swapping the OEM sports exhaust if the Akrapovic truly sounded nicer (to my ears). So far, none of the alternative exhausts fitted to an A110 I've heard (via you-tube clips) have sounded any nicer than the stock sports exhaust. Louder yes but not nicer. And I'm very sceptical on any power (or torque) increase claims. These would need to be proven and verifiable on an actual A110.

However, a performance catalytic converter fitted to the stock exhaust could be worth considering - has anyone gone down that route and found it beneficial?

There's a guy heavily associated with the French Renault/Alpine forum that has developed his own exhaust/sound tube.

It provides excellent value & is getting rave reviews. I guess it's hard to be upset when the cost is 350 or 565+ Euro depending on version & options.

It's a relatively easy DIY for you or with a helpful friend. But your local trusted mechanic/exhaust place should charge much to do the work.

There's a long exhaust thread (or 3) over there, but the place to buy them is here (& sales info as well):

NB: This is only a helpful post for my UK friends. I have no affiliation with the seller. My car has a titanium exhaust that is excellent, but if it didn't I would start with the ones above.
